MURS puts out the best independent videos!
November 30th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Just the other day, MURS released video for the song “Yesterday & Today”, which was a bit surprising since this song is ancient. This song is came off of MURS collabo album with super-producer 9th Wonder called “Murrays Revenge”, and came out in March of 2006. So why is he releasing this now? Who knows. But I don’t care, video is hot!

This video got me thinking of all the other videos MURS has done. In a time when million dollar video budgets don’t exist anymore, and its even harder for independent artists with no budgets to make videos, MURS manages to always bring the heat.

Check out this video for the song “Murray’s Revenge”, which is obviously the title track from the same album as above. The concept of this video is so ill, and he pulls it off nice. He even pauses half way to blow the dust off the cartridge. Classic!

MURS Ft. John Cena - Hustle. Here is another classic MURS video which features WWF superstar John Cena. Yes, John Cena. For people that never knew, John Cena raps… and he’s not half bad. The best part is that he totally lives up to his WWF legacy in this video and demolishes anyone who steps in his way. Such a dope video.

MURS - Bad One. Here’s another dope MURS song with a cool video. This one isn’t as dope as the others, but still pretty funny.

Busta Rhymes // Mansion // November 30th

Busta Rhymes invades South Beach at Mansion for an exclusive performance. This is sure to be classic.

Busta Rhymes at Mansion this friday!
November 29th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Busta Rhymes is invading South Beach this Friday night. He will be performing at Mansion. Seems like he’s down here a lot, but I have yet to see him perform. Seeing him on TV or on other performances on line seems unreal. This guy has so much energy on stage.

Check him out in the video above where he’s chilling in the studio talking crap with the homies. He speaks on the current state of rapper’s beefing over stupid shit, and how Michael Jackson owns everyone.

DJ I-Dee sits down with Qbert
November 29th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Fresh Basil familia DJ I-Dee recently sat down with DJ Qbert for an interview. Qbert was down in Miami last month for a performance at Studio A, where I-Dee opened up for him.

Anyways, this video is pretty ridiculous. I-Dee is always posting up some funny ass stuff, and he got Qbert to play along in this one. Too funny.

Amy Winehouse has some nose candy… on stage! Wow.
November 28th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

I’m sure this video can be seen in many different ways, but it is no secret that Amy has had drug problems in the past. I’ve seen some people say she was just wiping her nose, but I don’t know about that.

To me it looks like she definitely grabs something from the back of her hair, pulls up her sleeves to cover her hands, and takes a couple seconds to swipe something across her nose. Crazy. Why is she doing this? And why is she doing this in the middle of a performance?

Not only is the video shocking, but it was announced yesterday that she has canceled the remaining dates of her UK tour. She cites that she cannot continue performing while her husband is in custody. Blake Fielder has been held by authorities on some charges of assault he committed sometime in June last year.

Everything seems to be going wrong for her right now. Amy’s song “Rehab” has a dope ass concept, and is one her her best songs, but she really has to stop saying no and start considering it. I really wish her well, we need more of her music.

Ghostface Killah previews his album with Miss Info
November 28th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Miss Info dropped a couple exclusive videos earlier this morning, where she sits down with Ghostface Killah as they go through and talk about his upcoming album, “The Big Doe Rehab”. I don’t know how she knows all these rappers, but she always gets the dope interviews. I guess being on Hot97 doesn’t hurt.

As always, Ghost has many interesting things to say and gives lots of insight into what certain tracks mean. I was also surprised to see that Ghost is now producing, sort of. He’s credited as co-producer on a couple songs, alongside Antony Acid.

Previewing the snippets posted by Miss Info, this album is looking to be another Ghostface classic. This guy has got to be one of the most consistently best rappers out in the game.

RZA speaks on issues with Raekwon (video)
November 27th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

RZA was up at Tim Westwood’s show last week to promote the new Wu-Tang album, “8 Diagrams”. There has been much controversy lately as Raekwon spoke out against the album with a Miss Info interview a couple weeks ago. You can check the video here if you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t seen it yet.

Even Ghostface spoke out as there was tension building up. At first, the Wu-Tang album ended up having the same release date as Ghostface’s next album, and he wasn’t too happy with that. The Wu-Tang album has since been moved back a week after Ghostface voiced his frustrations.

So when the time was right, Westwood just hit RZA with a bunch of questions regarding the whole situation with everybody. Rza had much to say. But all seems cool for now. I’m still not sure who I agree with yet. I got the leaked album already, but still have to digest it. I will post some tracks next Monday.

Bass Sessions Recap — Killa Kela vs DJ Craze Video
November 26th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Bass Sessions last Wednesday was classic! If you missed it, you missed an epic day. Everyone on the bill straight up killed it, and overall the night was mad fun.

First up to bat was Tittsworth. It was the first time I had seem him live, and I believe it was also the first time he came to Miami. He did a great Bmore set, and was spinning for what seemed like an hour and half. Many classics were dropped, as well as many songs I heard for the first time. Although Tittsworth was creating a dope vibe and kept flipping records quickly, the Bmore sound got annoying after about 30 minutes. But there were many times when he just straight flipped it and dropped some booty shit.

That was until DJ Laz came on and rocked the house! Being from Miami, I feel ashamed that I have never seen him spin. There were lots of opportunities when I was a young’n, but I guess I wasn’t into that whole Hot Wheels scene, haha. At Bass Sessions though, my god!!! Classic after classic, DJ Laz just kept killing the crowd with Miami Bass shit. I recorded a big portion of his set, but the audio came out kind of distorted. As you can expect, the bass just killed the camcorder mic, and also my ears.

What proceeded after Laz is what you see in the video above (and below). DJ Craze came on, and brought out world famous beatboxer Killa Kela. Celebrating his first “Thanksgiving” in the States, Killa Kella came on with his heavy British accent and did many routines that left the crowd in awe. The dopest part for me was seeing Kela doing his thing while DJ Craze chimed in and was cutting up Kanye’s “Stronger”. Craze then dropped the Rocky Theme song while Kela followed his lead and everybody went nuts!

Topping off this incredible night was DJ Klever. There’s not much else I can say about this guy. I’ve posted about him many times before. Klever is simply one of the best DJ’s in the world. The energy this guy brings to a party is incredible. My hero, pause.

Music Mondays — The beard is back!!!!
November 26th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Freeway - It’s Over. Such a powerful track, this is probably the “What We Do” of this album. It has the usual soul sample flipped on some hype shit, and Freeway brings mad energy taking it to a higher level. Free speaks on the situation with Just Blaze and Kanye West, and how he wasn’t able to get their help on this album.

Freeway - This Can’t Be Real Ft. Marsha Ambrosius. Free opens up the album with this track, and it is so proper. It has a really smooth beat, which allows him to go into all the drama that went on over the years. He speaks on the Roc-a-fella breakup, his relationship with Beanie Sigel, and how he got in the game. Real shit.

Herve vs Michael Jackson - Cheap Thrills. Here is an interesting remix by Herve. He takes a Michael Jackson classic, and makes a completely different club banger out of it. Very nice production on this one. The bass kicks in nasty on this.

Dave Nada - Phat Bottom Girls. Here is a slick Bmore track by DJ and remix specialist Dave Nada. He takes a classic old rock track, and juices it up with a nice Bmore rhythm. Tittsworth played this out last week at Bass Sessions and it rocked the place. Nothing better than phat bottom girls dancing to this track, literally

Britney Spears vs David Guetta - Gimme More vs Love Is Gone (Jay Dabhi REMIX). Here’s some nice pop cheese for you. Jay Dabhi is a dope ass DJ, who also is well known in the mashup scene. Here is a little something he put together using David Guetta’s summer smash hit “Love Is Gone”, with Britney’s latest joint. I really think it matches well, and this thing bumps like crazy. The bass is too dope. Get up on it.

The Cool Kids - One Two. Yet another random Cool Kids track!! They keep releasing random tracks here and there, both old and new, and each time I hear them, I’m never disappointed. Such a fresh style, with banging beats. This is what I need right now. “It’s the new black version of the Beastie Boys”. Cheaaaaaa.

Steve Aoki is set to drop a classic next year
November 21st, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

In what seems like a scene that has been growing rapidly in the States the past couple of years, one of the major influences of that movement is set to drop a masterpiece next January. World famous DJ Steve Aoki, aka Kid Millionaire, will be releasing his debut mix album with exclusives only he can get.

The mix album called “Pillowface and his Airplane Chronicles” will be released on January 22 of next year, with guest appearances including Kid Sister, Pase Rock, Uffie, Spank Rock, and many, many more. As if those names weren’t enough already, you can also expect to hear remixes by some of the top producers in the electro game right now, including MSTRKRFT, Soulwax, and others.

I’m sure its not for everyone, but for those with an open mind, you can’t help but get wrapped up in this movement. Mike from Cornerstone was kind enough to send me some snippets off the upcoming release, which you can grab here. I know, i know, snippets. We would all rather hear full songs, but we’ve got surprises coming soon! So enjoy the snippets for now.

This past Friday, Prefuse 73 rocked a show at Studio A. We were able to catch up with him at an after party at PS14, where Loop Fridays is hosted by my homie Jake Jefferson.

Prefuse let us know whats up with his new album “Preparations”, and what you can expect from his current tour. Short and sweet. So if you already know P73, then you know the deal. His album is not to be slept on. Same quality material as always. Here is a sample track for those who haven’t peeped the album yet.

Music Mondays — Bass Sessions Edition!!!
November 19th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

This week I’m bringing you the Bass Sessions edition of Music Mondays. As you already know, DJ Craze is holding his B-Day party on Wednesday with a few of his friends coming down to Studio A to tear the place down. DJ Klever, Tittsworth, Killa Kela, and Miami’s own DJ Laz. WHAT!! It’s going down people. Here are some tracks you might expect to hear on Wednesday.

DJ Laz - Shake It Up. This is a straight up Miami Bass classic, which you can hear every morning on Power96 as DJ Laz plays the beat in the background for most of his morning show. I’m loving the chorus on this, and just the overall feel. Classic.

DJ Laz & Pitbull - Move Shake Drop. This is a new track produced by the Diaz Brothers, featuring Pitbull killing it on the rhymes. It samples the house classic “Satisfaction”, and Pitbull manages to flip it crazy! This is my new favorite club banger, totally feeling it, no homo.

Tittsworth vs Earth, Wind & Fire - September (Bmore Remix). Tittsworth is a monster in the Bmore music scene, and is helping to push it to new grounds all over the world. He has produced and remixed so many damn tracks its hard to pick some out. But this is probably one of my favorites. He totally flips this classic Earth, Wind & Fire song, and the way he cuts it up, it drops heavy!!

DJ Klever vs Lloyd - Get It Shawty (Bmore Remix). Not only is Klever one of the best DJs in the world, he kills it on the remix scene as well. I love it when he remixes dope R&B shit, just like this Lloyd banger from last year, which still kills the club today. He put a Bmore spin to the joint, and it came off proper.

DJ Klever vs R. Kelly - I’m A Flirt (Bounce Remix). Here is another R&B joint Klever beefed up real nice. I always liked this track by R. Kelly, but it was really slow. So Klever sped it up and beefed up the drums, giving it a nice bounce. Such a classic.

Along with superstar DJs, Bass Sessions will feature world famous beatboxer Killa Kela. Here is a sample. Don’t Miss!
