Music Mondays — The Slowness Continues
December 31st, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

[times square picture]

As the year official comes to a close tonight, music releases are still very low. The music business pretty much comes to a halt during the holiday season, as record sales don’t seem to remain steady during this time of year. So I put together another set of songs that were released earlier this year, but still some nice bangers.

Pitbull Ft. Lil Jon - The Anthem. With the new year coming, many people are making predictions at what will be the first huge hit. This new jam by Pitbull has already been taking off, but I still don’t think its at its full potential. This will be major in the next couple months.

Adam Tensta - They Wanna Know
. A couple weeks ago the UK invaded New York. Tim Westwood and DJ Semtex each came over and recorded their radio shows straight from the Def Jam offices. They were meeting up with local NY stars, and were giving light to some dope UK artists. Adam Tensta is one of them.

Sagat - Funk Dat. This song is pretty damn old. But I got a feeling its going to make a comeback next year. The video for this is classic.

Gym Class Heroes - Viva La White Girl. 2007 was a major year for the Gym Class Heroes. Just a couple years ago they were struggling artists, now they mega superstars. This is one of the sleeper songs on their album, which they played at the beginning of their “Clothes Off” video. Such a smooth beat with classy vocals.

Laidback Luke - Rocking With The Best 2007. Here is another song that I think will be big next year. Not sure how much movement it has made already, but this beat is just incredible and will definitely move people.

Nirvana - Heart Shaped Box (Tronic Clash REMIX). This track takes a classic Nirvana track and gives it a current spin. The heavy synths and bass fit perfectly with the vocals and give it a much harder feel. Perfect for the dancefloor.

DJ Klever - The Stud . DJ Klever keeps killing the remix scene time after time, but is now trying to come up with more original stuff. This is a pretty decent track with nice choirds and strong bass. Just how Klever likes it.

DJ Sega - Philly Hold Up 2007. DJ Sega is a pretty big Bmore producer, and has done many classic hits. This newer song is dope to me. Just enough changeups to make it interesting, plus the addition of nice Crooklyn Clan type vocals to make it work anywhere.

Arno Cost & Arias - Magenta (Eric Prydz & Awell Chariots Mix). This is a nice random track that i constantly hear on East Village Radio being played by DJ Eli, Mark Ronson, or whoever is spinning on the Fader show. This has a smooth beat with crazy changeups.

Music Mondays — Merry Christmas

[sexy santa img]

With the holidays already here, there’s not much to do but enjoy the vacation. There isn’t much music coming out around this time, so I put up a few classics, and a few recent remixes. Cheers.

Michael Jackson - Thriller (Villains Too Tight Pants Remix). The legendary album “Thriller” had its 25 year anniversary this year. You know Michael had to profit off that somehow, so he re-released the album with new remixes by Kanye West, Fergie, Akon, and more. This remix was not a part of it, but it blows all the other ones away. The bass line on this is incredible, and the chorus is just memorizing.

Platinum Pied Pipers - 1 Love 2 U. Here is rather old song, but I’ve been really on it lately. The Platinum Pied Pipers put out an incredible album in 2005, and this was one of those songs that didn’t make the cut. I’m not even sure if it was ever released, just one of those sneaky songs that got out somehow. The beat on this is so crazy, it should have been on the album.

Marvin Gaye - Let’s Get It On (Da Producers MPG Groove Remix). Here’s another oldie but goodie. Back in 2005, Motown released a remix project where some of the best producers in the game were given a chance to remix some Motown classics. This is one of the tracks that stood out. Such a smooth, soulful beat to match Marvin’s voice. Kind of gives the song a whole new feel from the original.

DJ Neoteric vs Ludacris - Move Bitch!. One of the many classic tracks done by DJ Neoteric. He takes a classic Ludacris track, and gives it the Bmore treatment, making it a must have club banger.

Ida Corr - Let Me Think About It (Fedde le Grand Remix). Here is a nice house track I’ve been digging lately. Has a thick bassline, along with some nicely laid vocals.

Enur vs DiscoTech - Calabria Bmore Remix. DiscoTech has been putting in heavy work on the remix scene this year. This one brought heat to all clubs across the world. They took this year biggest club hit, and somehow made it better.

Dead Prez - Hip Hop (Lars Vegas Bmore Remix). A classic Hip-Hop banger, Dead Prez’s “Hip-Hop” finally gets the Bmore treatment. I liek the way it came out. Nothing to crazy, but done just right.

Cut Copy - Hearts On Fire. Here is one of the better club songs this year. This has the type of feel that would work well in many different crowds, and breaks down nicely in the chorus with the Lyn Collins sample.

DJ Eli vs Cassie - Me and U. Last week I talked about Eli Escobar’s recent release, posting up “Juicy”. Well, here is another track off of that EP, and it is my other favorite. I’ve been playing this out for a while, and it just kills.

Justice is giving away some Christmas presents!
December 21st, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

With help from French superstars Justice, we have some Christmas presents to give out just in time for the holidays. The notorious Lola New York clothing empire has teamed up with Justice to give away a nice limited edition prize pack.

We will be giving out 1 Limited LOLA Cross shirt, 1 † CD by Justice, and 1 Justice tour poster. It will be hand delivered to your doorstep by Santa’s cutest Elves. A nice gift for any human. But who will get it?

The prize package will be sent out to the person who can share what they think is the the best remix done to any Justice song. Hey must also explain why that remix is better than the original. Doesn’t matter what remix, as long as the original was a Justice song. There are probably millions of Justice remixes out there. We’ve even posted some before. So be creative.

Post your selection in the comments, or email us at freshbasilcrew (at) gmail (dot) com. Deadline is next Tuesday, which happens to be Christmas!

M.I.A. - Paper Planes (VIDEO)
December 17th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Chea!!! One of the dopest tracks this year. And not bad for being an indie video.

Music Mondays — Big releases, Big disappointments.
December 17th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Beanie Sigel - Gutted Ft. Jay-Z. Beanie’s long awaited album dropped last week, and I was a bit disappointed. There were lots of boring songs, and stuff that just sounds so dated. This song was pretty cool however. It has a really dope beat, with some nice rhymes by both Beanie and Jay-Z.

DJ Drama & Outkast - Art of Storytellin Pt. 4. There’s not much more to say about this song, as most of you have already heard it. I didn’t want to post it until I got a quality version though. This song is so crazy, with Andre3000 dropping an incredible verse. Outkast never left baby.

DJ Drama - Cannon Remix Ft. Lil Wayne, Willie The Kid, Freeway & T.I.. This is another monster track off of DJ Drama’s debut album. With production from Cannon, Lil Wayne comes off hard, pause. Freeway and T.I. also catch wreck.

Sam Sparro - Black and Gold. This is a new monster track from a dude based out of L.A., Sam Sparro. Until this past week, I had no idea who he was. But this track is ridiculous. There’s already a big buzz about it with DJs on messages boards. This looks like it will be one of those songs during the WMC.

Alicia Keys - No One (Curtis Lynch Reggea Remix). Here is a lovely remix for the already popular “No One” by Alicia Keys. The reggae riddim matches this song so beautifully, and gives it a completely different feel. Butter.

Kylie Minoque - Speakerphone. Here is soem more pop cheese from Kylie Minogue. I posted a Twelves remix for her latest single the other week, but this track also deserves to be posted. I don’t even think this is a remix, this is just an original Bmore track. Kylie keeps it interesting while changing up the Bmore track in and out and keeping a smooth electro background. Such a nice dance track.

Count of Monte Cristal - Have A Good Time (Sinden REMIX). I’ve been trying to find this crazy electro goodness for the longest, and finally got it last week. Sinden has been putting in crazy work on the remix/production scene for years. This song shows no different, offering a bass heavy rhythm with lots of changeups keeping it interesting.

DJ Eli - Juicy. World famous DJ Eli Escobar dropped a Money Lotion EP the other week, with tracks that have been banging int he clubs for the longest. It includes his crazy Cassie “Me & U” remix, as well as this monster which takes Rakim’s “The Ledge” and flips it on some ill dance shit. This guy’s production and remix work is amazing.

Hi-Tek - My Piano Ft. Ghostface, Raekwon & Dion. Another heavily anticipated release from last week was Hi-Tek’s return. As expected, the album is filled with beautiful production, but most of the rappers on there just weren’t doing it right. This song stood out, featuring Ghostface and Raekwon. Dope beat and hook.

Justice - D.A.N.C.E. remix madness!
December 12th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

The year is coming to a close real soon, and it got me thinking of this year’s strongest tracks. One of the biggest songs this year was “D.A.N.C.E.”, made by French electronic duo, Justice. This song exploded everywhere, and pretty much crossed over into other genres.

Just like any other smash hit, this song got plenty of remixes thrown at it. Some better than others, but most of them were dope. Its pretty hard to mess up such a dope track. Here are a few of my favorites, including the original.

Justice - D.A.N.C.E. (Original). The original mix by Justice, this one is a classic by itself.

Eli Escobar & Diplo - D.A.N.C.E.. This is my favorite remix. Eli and Diplo add a crazy bassline that just fits perfectly, and change up the order of the vocals. Amazing.

Tittsworth - D.A.N.C.E. (Bmore Remix). Another impressive remix, this time with Tittsworth taking it in the Bmore direction. He chops it up real nice, and doesn’t over-do-it like some Bmore songs tend to do.

MSTRKRFT - D.A.N.C.E. (Remix). This version makes it a little bit more hardcore with deep synths and heavy drums. Very nice effect for a totally different feel.

Wale vs Justice - D.A.N.C.E. Remix. This guy is one of the most exciting rappers out right now, no homo. He out this remix out what seems like ages ago. First “rapper” to be up on this electronic craziness. He killed the flows!

XXXchange Ft. Mos Def & Spank Rock - D.A.N.C.E. Remix. This version came out not too long ago, which is really late in terms of freshness. Wale’s version was already released months before this came out, so you would have figured they would have flipped it differently. But they didn’t Sounds a bit sloppy to me, but maybe other peeps will like it.

Make way for The Red Room
December 11th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

A recent movement that has been long in the making, The Red Room encompasses 5 members trying to bring back some good music to the Miami scene. The Red Room team consists of producers, emcees, a poet, and even a graphic design artist. They are a nice mix of individuals who come together and make music that is influenced by jazz, funk, soul, and everything that is good.

The video above is only the first of many more to come. It shows a brief glimpse into their world, and what they will be working on in the months ahead. Their plan is to release a new video once or twice a month, showcasing behind the scenes footage in the studio, interviews, spoken word sessions, concert footage, and guest appearances as well. All music and content in the videos will be their’s solely, including the beat in the video above, produced by Felo.

It will be a fresh and innovative way to keep updated with a local crew that you might not be able to see out in the streets often. The videos will be posted on their MySpace page, as well as on our site periodically. So stay tuned until then, many big things ahead!

Music Mondays — Some Miami heat, plus plenty remixes.
December 10th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Garcia - In My Life. One of Miami’s hardest working MC’s, Garcia returns with a solid track. I believe this is the single for his next album, and I’m really impressed. Crazy beat, with hard lyrics.

Playaz Circle - Paper Chaser. This is a real surprising track. Playaz Circle popped off recently with their smash hit “Duffle Bag Boy” featuring Lil Wayne. Its a pretty classic dirty south type song, so you wouldn’t expect them to come back with this. Such a fresh beat with a nice concept. Plus, the singer in this song sounds sooo much like Phonte. Beautiful.

Mic Terror - Juke Them Hoes. Here is an interesting track from somebody I’ve been waiting to hear from, Mic Terror. Its hard finding this dudes music, but this jam will do for now. Such a dope flip of a James Brown classic, Mic Terror comes off real clean.

B.O.B. Ft. Juvenile & Rick Ross - Haterz Everywhere (Remix). Here is a remix to a song that came out a while back. I really like this beat, on some smooth crunk shit. This song has a real catchy hook, and the dudes aren’t too bad on the rhymes.

Joell Ortiz Ft. Jadakiss & Saigon - Hip-Hop (Cookin Soul Remix). Earlier this year, Joell really exploded on the indie hip-hop scene with his song “Hip-Hop”. The usual “take it back” song, but he flipped it nice. And now this remix takes it on a whole new direction, with Jadakiss and Saigon on the track as well. The production feels nothing like the original, and gives it a new feel. So dope.

ATCQ vs Bobby LaBeat - Here We Go Yo (Scenario Bmore Remix). Here is a nice Bmore remix that popped up recently. One of ATCQ’s most memorable tracks gets chopped and screwed, with the infamous Busta Rhyme’s “As I come back!” breakdown. Many changeups keep it interesting.

Ready For The World - Oh Sheila (Tactic Remix). Recently a lot of people have been taking this classic R&B track by Ready For The World and spinning it their own way. I’m not sure who started it, and why so many remixes have popped up now, but this remix came out fresh. The electro bassline Tactic added on this is incredible. Lovely dance tune.

Simian Mobile Disco - Hustler (A-trak Remix). Busy as always, DJ A-Trak drops another delicious remix. This time, he takes SMD’s summer hit “Hustler”, and spins it into a hard hitting instrumental track. I’m not sure how A-Trak can keep up with so much music. Guy is a beast.

CYNE releases new music, for free!
December 6th, 2007 // Posted by sweet dick vega

[cyne image]

One of Florida’s best kept secrets, CYNE, has just released some new music.. for free! Its been a while since CYNE has blessed the people. Their last album “Evolution Flight” came out in 2005. Although it was a great album, people always crave for more!

On the 8 track EP, which you can download on their site, 4 previously unreleased songs are showcased including their respective instrumentals. Much to my surprise, Fresh Basil familia is all over it, including Seven Star, Stress, and Soarse Spoken. My favorite track features all three!

CYNE - Floatin’ Ft. Seven Star, Soarse Spoken, & Stress.

Also, I’ve heard that some people are having problems with the zip file they downloaded off the CYNE site. So I have uploaded another version here.
