Our crew reigns supreme in Miami, home skillet. Lean back with the bullshit, and sweat the steez.
A crew of DJs, producers, sneaker heads, scenesters... fresh people, period. We be all over Miami son. Our goal is to spread good music, and put you on to dope events.
The best hip-hop show from last year returns for the 2nd time, this time even bigger. Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Mos Def, Ghostface, Raekwon, plus many more. $55.
So..yesterday Kanye West announced on his blog very sparse details about his Glow in the Dark tour. But everyone I know, myself included, is very excited about the line-up. No dates or cities or any other info has been revealed yet..but if it doesn’t hit Miami…I’m going to be traveling for sure.
I just finished putting up this track on Music Mondays, and I foudn teh video for it. Nice!
I think it came out extra dope. A very simple but effective concept. Looks like she is giving props to a lot of notable releases from the past, including an Earth, Wind & Fire’s“Head To The Sky”, Nas’s“Illmatic”, De La Soul’s“3 Feet High and Rising”, Ohio Players’“Honey”, and a bunch more. Is she trying to tell us these are her influences?
Last year Amy Winehouse practically took over the States with her amazing music and lovely English accent. However, it seems like the Europe invasion is only just getting started. I’ve already posted about a few stars to look out for, including Estelle and Adam Tensta. Here is another one that is sure to take over Amy’s spot if Amy continues her path down destruction. Adele hails from South London, and just dropped an incredible debut album called “19″.
Adele - Cold Shoulder. I first heard this track on Mark Ronson’s radio show. He produced this, and it has a real Amy Winehouse feel to it. But Adele does a great job at making it her own.
Adele - Right As Rain. This is another great song off the album. Great uptempo feel with Adele displaying her great vocal range, taking it high to low in a subtle but beautiful way.
Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings - Tell Me. Keeping it on the same soulful steez, here is a track from the current queen of funk. Sharon Jones was down in Miami a couple weeks ago and killed it as usual. This is one of my favorite tracks off her last album. The album is a lot slower and more soulful then the one before, but this one really picks it up.
Erykah Badu - Honey. I thought I posted this song up already, but apparently I didn’t. This is off Erykah’s upcoming album, which is being partly produced by Madlib. What!!! Should be crazy. This track is a Madlib production, and it feels so nice. With Dilla gone, who produced a bunch of tracks for Erykah in the past, I can see no better replacement than Madlib.
Ying Yang Twins - Drop. No matter how much you might think their music sucks, the Ying Yang Twins constantly reappear time after time with a new club jam. I think this one is pretty decent, and I see it making a big splash in the club scene.
Sterling Simms - Nasty Girl. This is a song that slipped my radar for a while, but I finally caught on to it. Sterling Simms made an appearance on Jay-Z’s “Kingdom Come” album, and has been making big strides since then. This song is so dope to me. It has that grown and sexy feel , and just has an incredible bass line.
Jamiroquai - Starchild. I love this dude, no homo. When it comes to making smooth, sexy dance music, nobody comes close. Hopefully I get to check these people live one day, which I heard is an amazing experience.
Purple Crush - Shopping On The Dancefloor (Krames Remix). Here is another killer remix by the infamous DJ Krames. I’ve posted up a few of his remixes before, and he keeps dropping some more heat. This one is a sure fire club jam, with just enough Bmore in it to make it tasteful but not overdone.
The South Beach Comedy Festival kicks off tonight, and will last until January 19 (Saturday). Some of the biggest names in the comedy game will be killing shows all over the South Beach, including places like The Fillmore, Lincoln Theatre, and the Colony Theatre. There will even be some free shows for those on a budget.
Some of the big names attending the festival this year include Katt Williamson Thursday, Kathy Griffintonight, Jeff Dunhamon Friday, and the infamous Dave Attellon Saturday.
Be out there! THe beach will be lively for the next few nights.
This week we got the return of Missy Elliot. Seems like she’s been gone for years, but has now returned with a new banger. Say what you want, but you can’t doubt this girls impact on club music. I think this new track is a keeper.
Missy Elliott Ft. Jay-Z - Ching-A-Ling Remix. Produced by Swizz Beatz. I’m surprised he’s not screaming all over it like all the other songs he produces. The Jay-Z verse seems a bit suspect. Sounds like someone put this together, cause this verse was on another song (see below).
Timbaland - Laff At ‘Em Ft. Jay-Z & Justin Timberlake. Here is the track where the Jay-Z verse was lifted from. Its a killer track from last year which also features Justin Timberlake. Jay’s verse sounds much proper over this beat. BK All Day. So dope.
Jay-Z - Party Life (Green Lantern REMIX). Here is DJ Green Lantern’s version of Jay-Z’s “Party Life”. Just like above, he flipped it on some smooth vibe type steez, and it fits the track well.
T-Pain vs Ballgreezy - Bartender (REMIX). Here is another remix which slipped my radar for some time, but I think its so dope. It gives the smash hit a different feel. The beat is real laid back and the drums sound so nice. Ballgreezy has a bunch of these smooth type tracks. Look out for him.
Estelle - American Boy Ft. Kanye West. I’ve posted about Estelle before, but some of you might not have been paying attention. Well, this time its going to be hard to ignore. She got one of the biggest acts in the world right now to back her up and add some flavor to the jam. Kanye drops a couple nice verses, making this song very club worthy.
Buddy Akai - Cut Me Up (Villains Remix). The Villains keep making crazy remixes, some of which I’ve posted on here before. This one is no different. The original is not even close to being as hype as this remix. They beefed up the drums and gave it some heavy synths. Very nice.
Holy Ghost - Hold On. This song might be old for some, as it dropped early last year. Recently its been really killing me though. The beat on this track is so ridiculous. The bass doesn’t hit too hard, but has such a nice feel to it, which fit the synth sample so well. This can either be a dope chill out track, or it can rock a party as well if dropped nicely.
Spank Rock & Benny Blanco vs Krames - Bootay (REMIX). Last summer Bangers & Cash, aka Spank Rock and Benny Blanco, dropped a classic booty/bass EP. DJ Krames waited his turn and finally dropped a sick remix of “Bootay”. I’m sure you will recognize the sample in the background, which gives this song a totally different club feel.
B.A.M. of the Jungle Brothers will be dropping an exclusive set at Grand Groove in Jazid. The usual bad boys of Miami, DJ SIRE ESQ and Semp Rok, will be there as well to back him up. Free.
Baby Jam of the JBeez will be the guest on the wheels droppin that original hip-house and classics like the one above. Put on your medallions and step on out!
Not sure of when and where, but they are coming! According to Billboard.com, the group will be spending a lot of time in the US next summer, with a wide variety of cities all across the country.
It looks like Radiohead will be visiting two cities in Florida, including Tampa and Miami. We’ll just have to wait for the exact date and place.
Until then, here is a dope remix that came out recently. DJ Techincs took their song “Everything Is In Its Right Place” and flipped it into a nice Bmore track.
I’m taking it back to one of last years best releases. It was a late release, so its still very fresh. He had one of the biggest R&B jams last year with “Shawty Is A Ten”. But here are a couple of my favorite tracks off the album.
The Dream - Falsetto. Falsetto is currently killing both the radio and video charts. This song has such a thick beat, laced with a nice catchy hook.
The Dream - Luv Songs. This is another banger off the album. I think it should have been a single. But then again, the song i s filled with single-worthy songs. This beat kind of rides the same as Timberlake’s “My Love”, and would probably kill the clubs if it had an uptempo remix.
Lupe Fiasco - Paris, Tokyo. Another dope release that came out recently was Lupe Fiasco’s second album, “The Cool”. Its not as good as I hoped it would have been, but this track is straight butter. The rhodes accompanying the nicely layered drums is incredible.
Bangers & Cash - Loose (DJ Ayres Potion Remix). Spank Rock and Benny Blanco dropped a classic EP last year where they remixed some classic booty songs. All the songs were solid as fuck, but there are always people out there who want to remix. DJ Ayres did a solid one with this one, taking “Loose” and mashing it with “Potion” by Ludacris.
Lil Wayne - Brand New. Not sure where this popped off from, but I’m loving it. Lil Wayne drops a solid performance on a throwback 80s type beat. Very basic, but still very powerful.
House of Pain vs Mickey Slim - Jump Around 2007. Mickey Slim took a pop/hip-hop classic and turned it into an electro powerhouse jam. The synth work on this is amazing, with a nice clean bass line. It transitions back down to the normal speed of the song, which will make it a killer club track.
Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings played for a packed house last night at the Culture Room. They were down here before about 2 years ago, but the crowd was not as thick. However, with the help of Amy Winehouse’s success, and the Dap-Kings musical backing on her platinum album, this modern brand of funk is making its big waves across the states.
Simply put, this is one of the most solid bands out there right now. The homie Wrekonize was at the jam and recorded some videos. I feel hesitant posting them up because you really need to experience this band in person. But nonetheless, this is for the lost souls who missed the show.
