Music Mondays — Erykah Returns
February 25th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

[erykah badu picture]

Erykah Badu is finally back with a new album. I got to hear an advance copy this week, and I was very pleased. Seems like I didn’t get a full copy of the album because it was short a few songs. But I was jamming to it regardless, with production from Madlib on a bunch of the tracks. I don’t have the liner notes, so I’m not sure which tracks were actually produced by Madlib, but the two tracks below definitely have his feel. First one is extra thick with banging drums. The second song sounds like it came straight from his Beat Konducta “In India” album. Both are quality Badu tracks.

Erykah Badu - Soldier.

Erykah Badu - The Healer.

2 Pistols Ft. T-Pain - She Got It. Damn. I’m loving this shit. I don’t care what you think, this track is fire!!! T-Pain is a genius. He keeps coming up with these catchy ass hooks that stand out over the track. I’m not even sure who 2 Pistols is. But whatever. Pop cheese at its finest.

Lil Mama Ft. Chris Brown & T-Pain - Shawty Get Loose. I certainly thought Lil Mama was gonna be a one hit wonder. But here she comes with another banger. Not sure if this is a hit yet, but it has potential. I’m really feeling the beat, and T-Pain kills it as usual. Pop hip-hop doing its thing.

Janet Jackson has a new album coming out real soon. I already featured one song off of it, but here is the current single. It has already been out for a while, but both these remixes are good enough to extend its quality run. The Jeremy Word remix uses the same sounds, but ends up making the song sound cleaner. On the other hand, Timbaland’s remix uses a completely new beat, giving it a whole different feel. Both are tight.

Janet Jackson - Feedback (Jeremy Word Remix).

Janet Jackson - Feedback (Timbaland Remix).

Pete Rock Ft. Rell - Thats What I Am Talking About. I was able to get my hands on the new Pete Rock album last week, and was very disappointed. As others have confirmed, this album is just boring. A damn snooze fest. I’m not really feeling most of the beats on the album, and the best tracks were the singles that are already out, including the Styles P joint, and the one with Jim Jones. This track is pretty straight, but I’m not sure if I’ll end up remembering it in a couple of years. Either way, enjoy the smooth piano loop for now.

Sara Bareilles - Love Song. This is a pretty funny track that I found out about from a Rhapsody commercial one day while at home. It came out in the same commercial that the Cool Kids came out on. I remember bugging cause the Cool Kids were basically nobodies, and they were starting to make it big being featured on a national commercial. But the other song stuck with me, and now I kind of dig it. Play on Sara.

Neighbourhood Romeo - Laura Winslow. Here is a random funk/electro track which was lingering in my computer. I first heard this on a mixtape and thought it was mad fresh. Not sure where the original vocal comes from, but the beat is hot. This is a club killer.

Florida’s Funkin’ Now
February 19th, 2008 // Posted by DON SIRE ESQ.

.null

Upon a recent trip to the UK I came up on this fresh compilation of funk groups out of the Sunshine State from the 60s-70s. Out on Now & Again records, Stones Throw’s soulful sister label, it features a stack of un-released 45s, some sampled by a certain Cut Chemist or DJ Shadow, from well knowns including Blowfly & Third Guitar, and plenty of other new ones to discover.

You can check out Jazzman’s site to stream the tracks, or better yet, grab one at your local Amazon outlet instead.Your girls shakin booty will thank you for it!

On the topic, Miami is also home to DJ Le Spam and his dusty podcasts. Dude posts up the tracklistings too to help get your dig on. Get up off that thang!

Music Mondays — Kimbo Bringing It Home
February 18th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

[kimbo picture]

Miami just had a pretty big weekend! Kimbo annihhilated Tank Abbott. I’ll probably post the video later for those that missed it, but it was pretty intense. It didn’t last too long, much like a Tyson fight, but it was dope! I wasn’t sure what kind of celebration music to put up this Monday, so I didn’t do it at all. Instead, here are some new tracks that just came out!

Usher Ft. Young Jeezy - In This Club. Here is the new single for Usher, featuring Young Jeezy. This is a real safe pick for a single, considering what he tried to go with the first time. The track might remind people of Timberlake’s “My love”. Usher seems to have used the same formula, with a similar type of beat. Its has potential, especially if people start making uptempo remixes for it. I’ll be on the lookout!

Keyshia Cole - Shoulda Let You Go (DJ Eli Remix). World famous DJ Eli keeps dropping classic remix after classic remix. I’ve featured many of them on here before. Now here is another one to add to the growing list. He takes a Keyshia Cole track and completely flips it on some ill 80s electro vibe type shit. Don’t even know how to describe. This guy continues to impress me.

Snoop Dogg Ft. Robyn - Sensual Seduction (Remix). There have already been plenty of remixes to this song. This 80s type version really stands out to me though. It kind of gives the song a whole new feel, making it playable for many different types of crowds. I like how Robyn fits into the track as well. She doesn’t overpower Snoop and try to make it her own, but just fits in nicely.

Bird Peterson vs. Wu-Tang - The Jump Off (Remix). This is an interesting Bmore track by Bird Peterson. This is one of the hypest Wu-Tang tracks, and he takes it to another level. Bird sped it up to primetime club speed, and added his usual thick synths to add more flavor. Nice.

Amy Winehouse - Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow. This is a pretty recent Amy Winehouse track. It was featured on some movie soundtrack, but I can’t remember which one. It has a different feel than what is on her album, but still keeps you intrigued with her powerful voice.

B.O.B. - Grip Your Body (Ft. Amy Winehouse). Here is another track featuring Amy, this time as a sample. Its a pretty basic track, but I think its dope! B.O.B. flips one of Amy’s lines and turns it into a whole track. Not sure if this will hit big, but it will be a nice throwback track someday.

DJ Dstar - Bang This In The Club. Here is a classic club track that is quite a bit old already. I never had the chance to get it until the other day, so I will share now! Deal with it! Pretty basic Bmore track, with all the right essentials needed to rock a party. The Khia sample never gets old, and DJ Dstar puts a fresh spin on it. A+.

Copywrite Ft. Skyzoo & Pacewon - From The Inside Out. I haven’t heard from Copywrite in a couple years! I don’t know what happened to him. He used to be down with the Roc-A-Fella camp form what I heard, but seems like nothing ever popped off. And now with this track, seems like he’s trying to change his style, to sound more gutter. The nerdy voice is no longer present. Either way, song is pretty hot.

Music Mondays - Its that time again

[dick in a box picture]

You know the deal. Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. This is one of those days that ladies expect something special. So for those lost dudes still trying to figure out what to do, taking her to this show might be dope! Or maybe a standard “Dick In A Box” will do just fine.

I didn’t want to do the usual Valentine’s Day post, but turns out thats exactly what I’ma do. So here’s a bunch of lovely tracks with a good ol’ love theme. I put a few brand new tracks, plus a bunch of classics you can’t go without.

G-Unit - Bottom Girl. 50 and the Unit took a pretty dope Ryan Leslie track, and flipped it to fit their own steez. As always, 50 comes nice with the vocal hook, which he switched up from the original track. Beat is crazy, so this is definitely a banger.

Janet Jackson - Rock With You. Looking at the name, I thought Janet was going to cover her brother’s song. Turns out its some completely different shit, but just as smooth. I love it!!!!!! Sounds like it sample the classic pop jam “Lovefool” by the Cardigans.

Michael Jackson & Will.I.Am - P.Y.T. (2008 REMIX). I had to put up an MJ track after putting a Janet track, so here’s a new spin on an old classic. For the 25th anniversary of the Thriller release, MJ hooked up with some of today’s biggest producers, and pumped out some remixes of his classic singles. This song was one of the better remixes on the project.

Mishon - Eh Girl
. I don’t know much about this dude, but this song is pretty nice. His name is Mishon, and he’s from LA apparently. The beat on this track is so lovely, and I’m sure somebody else has used a similar type sample, but its slipping my mind right now.

Jean Grae - Love Thirst. This is one of the dopest female MCs out there right now. She’s been putting in work for years, and recently had her joint with 9th Wonder re-leaked. It never got released in the first place because of its leaking. Seems like they beefed it up and just leaked it again. As always, Jean comes off nice.

The rest of the tracks I posted are well rounded classics. I wasn’t planning on doing this, so I just grabbed a few tracks I had laying around on my computer. You will probably know all of them. If not, step your game up. For the real heads, if you want to get the full effect of the James Brown track, peep the live performance. So epic!!

James Brown - Please, Please, Please.

Marvin Gaye - Distant Lover (Live).

Brief Encounter - Total Satisfaction.

Breakwater - You Know I Love You.

Teddy Pendergrass - When Somebody Loves You Back.

Bobby Caldwell - What You Won’t Do For Love.

Enjoy your Valentine’s Day!

[eric roberson picture]

This Thursday, February 14th - the lovely Eric Roberson (also known as Erro, clever eh?) will be performing in Miami at the Joseph Caleb Auditorium.

The song that automatically got me hooked on Eric was off of DJ Spinna’s Intergalactic Soul LP - “Butterfly Girl”.

He’s worked with many of Philly’s best- DJ Jazzy Jeff, Jill Scott and Musiq Soulchild. So fellas, if you want to do some major impressing, be sure to take your Valentine to one of the smoothest shows in Miami. Cheers to that!

Grammy’s are only good for performances!
February 11th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

For real. Fuck the Grammy’s. What do they know about good shit? Its still entertaining to watch though, considering they always have the top artists doing their thing. Here are a couple classic performances for those that missed it.

First, the long awaited return of Amy Winehouse since all the troubles she’’s been having lately. She ended up winning 5 Grammy’s. It was funny to see her accepting the awards too. She’s so ghetto on the mic. Here she is performing “You Know I’m No Good” and “Rehab”. Classic.

And of course, what would the Grammy’s be without Kanye. He performed twice as well, doing “Stronger” with the help of Daft Punk, and a new rendition of “Hey Mama”.

Kimbo Slice coming back to Miami! (VIDEO)
February 8th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Kimbo Slice appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show last night to promote his upcoming fight with Tank Abbott.

Its a pretty interesting interview, as I had no idea that Kimbo has three sons and three daughters. Six kids total? Crazy. And for some reason, he has a fascination with the name Kevin.

Check out that fight on February 16th. Going to be crazy, and its right in our backyard.

There are many places to see and be seen this weekend, but the three main events in my eyes revolve around CAMEO, THE FIFTH and last, but definitely not least SPACE! Louis Puig, Ken Smith, Emi Guerra, and David Grutman, invite you all to attend the festivities at CAMEO in honor of the 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of “A Rockin Good Time!” Enjoy sounds by DJ Shawn Rudnick and Special Guest Cedric Gervais, previously know as, “King of South Beach”. Known for his previous residence at Crobar and countless after hours sessions at the legendary Space, Cedric Gervais, has been a staple in the Miami party scene. He has brought you the hits, “Pills” featuring Second Sun, “Spirit In My Life”, and has worked with superstars such as Oscar G of MURK, Tony Choy, Steve Lawler, David Waxman, and a dozen more. This is definitely looking to be a celebration you don’t want to miss!

Next on the agenda, the Fifth where you can dance your ass off to Starkillers with DJ Lemoch performing LIVE! Starkillers, aka Nick Terranova, know best for his awesome combo of nasty bass and sexy seductive vocals, guys keep an eye your chic for sure because he will have them shaking and screaming, and losing their mind! Either way your night will be off and poppin’ if you’re at the Fifth with these great DJ’s!

[cedric image]

After you leave either of these two FANTASTIC venues, make sure to make your way to the master of all after hours… Club Space! Bud Light and Space proudly bring you The Sunday Morning Sleaze Show with CEDRIC GERVAIS and DJ PATRICK M. Yep you got it, following Cameo; Cedric Gervais will continue the party at SPACE… all I have to say is WOOHOO!!! Let me not forget DJ PATRICK M, if you didn’t get enough of him at Stereo Parkwest on Friday then come on by. His sets have no doubt been classed as the type that will have you up on stage like it’s nobody’s business and dancing like there’s no one around! You’ll be dancing till the club shuts down, and that…well that my Party Patrol friends is where I step in to the beat till noon or till they kick me out. Where’s your Friday at?
February 5th, 2008 // Posted by Miss Vique*

Giving you the real deal on some great nightlife from a TRUE PARTY GIRL! These are some suggestions of places that will always have you bumpin’ during the Friday night BREAKOUT from the daily grind of your borin’ ass Monday- Friday 9-5 nonsense AKA the J.O.B. Let me take you on a little escapade.

[cameo picture]

I start the night enjoying a chill, mellow vibe at GRASS, located in the Design District with the fresh beats provided by DJ Joseph Anthony, whose credits include guest spots at the infamous SHADOW LOUNGE and playing with the likes of George Acosta, BT, Soul Mechanik, and plenty more. It even gets better — ladies enjoy complimentary dinner, just make sure you RSVP. From there lets continue Downtown to the latest addition to the hottest strip in downtown- STEREO PARKWEST. This spot has amazing lights (a complete wall-full of LED screens), a sick-ass sound system, and there’s always some hotties in the bunch. Plus, DJ Shawn Rudnick plays some of the best house packed with funky beats and awesome vocals. Let me not even begin to tell you his background. He’s collaborated with artists such as Gloria Estefan, Madonna, Doug E Fresh, Erick Morillo, Rabbit In The Moon, etc, etc, the list is way too long to continue. He has been a big part of the Miami Party Scene for a good minute and he definitely knows how to keep you moving to the beat with your hands up in the air!

[dj irie picture]

Next stop, the beach. I love to hit up CAMEO… music is always poppin’ with Mr. Mauricio and DJ Irie in the main room. Need I say more?! They’ll have you droppin it like it’s hot and all the ladies wanting to toss out their heals from all the dancing! Lets not forget DJ Louis Dee dropping down mash-ups of 80’s, ol-skool rock, and house in the ultra lavish VICE, an equation built for success. For sure an A+ in the art of spinning beats in both rooms.

The fun doesn’t end here, after closing out Cameo you can always find some great after hour spots that let you wind down or just continue the party! All you have to take a little trip over the Causeway back to downtown, hello the only place with 24-hr liquor licenses. DJ QBA and DJ Ivan D can help you dance off the alcohol at NOCTURNAL or head two doors down to PARK WEST where DJ Patrick M keeps all the local house aficionados moving to the beat of electro and house till sunrise. After that, well then you kind of have to go home or do something productive to prepare yourself for the upcoming Saturday night.

That about wraps up my Friday night guide, or should I say night and morning. To think this is only the beginning of my weekend, ONLY INSANITY AWAITS!!! HANDLE IT!!!
