Our crew reigns supreme in Miami, home skillet. Lean back with the bullshit, and sweat the steez.
A crew of DJs, producers, sneaker heads, scenesters... fresh people, period. We be all over Miami son. Our goal is to spread good music, and put you on to dope events.
The best hip-hop show from last year returns for the 2nd time, this time even bigger. Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Mos Def, Ghostface, Raekwon, plus many more. $55.
It has been a while since I have posted ny late night performances, but this week has been so crazy. Check out these that happened this week.
The Roots Ft. Wale & Chrisette Michele - Rising Up(on Letterman). That motherfucking dude Wale got his first major TV appearance with The Roots last night on Letterman. The performance came off real fresh, and it seemed like mad shit was going on, but it flowed well. Letterman seemed to enjoy it cause he is hardly ever that enthusiastic.
Santogold - L.E.S. Artistes(on Conan). The ever so classy Santogold had a pretty decent performance. I’m not sure if most people will get her, but this probably helped her grow her fanbase somewhat. The homie Pase Rock was cold chillin’ in the background as well.
Feist - I Feel It All(on Colbert Report). Stephen rarely has on music guests, but when he does, its always special. Feist delivered a lovely performance, just her and her guitar. But you’ll have to catch the interview to see what the blue dress was all about. Classic!
Last Tuesday I hit up the Estelle show with John legend hosting at Culture Room. It was a great night! I definitely wasn’t expecting such a big turnout, but the venue was packed top to bottom. For the people who couldn’t make it inside, a big projection screen was set up outside with live video feed.
Estelle did a pretty long set, approaching almost an hour, or maybe even more. She performed most of the songs off her new album which is out today, and also performed some songs off her first album as well. Estelle came off as a really down to earth girl, and told a many stories on stage while explaining songs she was about to sing. John Legend was in the building to help support, and did a fine job. He performed about 3 different songs with her—one towards the middle, and a couple more at the end.
Here are two videos taken from different parts of the show. The first was right around the beginning when she just came on. The second video was the closing song. Obviously, the video does not capture the whole atmosphere. So next time, don’t miss it!
Performing “No Substitute Love” and “Magnificent”.
Another slow week for music has left us here scrambling to find some new shit. Estelle’s new album hits stores tomorrow! Be sure to cop that, it is amazing! Besides that, this new Madonna jam with Timbaland and Timberlake is a banger. The song has that signature Timbaland sound with thick ass drums, and some nice synth work as well. The video is pretty fresh as well.
Gnarls Barkley - Going On. I’ve posted a couple Gnarls songs before, but I just had to post this one. It has really been killing me lately. Song is too sick! Danger Mouse provides a perfect uptempo, go-go type beat, while Cee-Lo straight kills the melody. This should have been one of the singles.
Glenn Lewis - Don’t You Forget It (Madlib Remix). Before this pat week, I had no idea who this dude was. Turns out, Glenn Lewis is a Canadian born R&B singer who now resides in Philly. Of course… Philly. Seems like all the best neo-soul singers come out of Philly. This song is straight butter with Madlib dropping a smooth ass beat filled with nice bells and thick ass bass.
Busy P - To Protect & Entertain Ft. Murs. This track is stirring up all the blogheads out in the interwebs. Murs is a dope ass dude, and definitely deserves his props. But seems like people were really surprised to hear him working with Busy P. I personally think the joint came out real fresh. The beat is nasty, and Murs does his thing. Can’t hate.
Joyce Sims - All In All. I met a girl this past week at the mall, who told me her favorite music was Freestyle. I kind of chuckled to myself cause nobody has ever said that. So here is a freestyle joint I’ve been really digging lately.
noel - silent morning x-mix remix Here is another classic freestyle joint. Noel hit it huge in the 80s with this shit. However, I put up the house remix cause it feels so much better, and has a much thicker sound to it. I know Armand was influenced by shit like this. Classic.
Billy Joel - My Bmore Life (DJ Soap Remix). I’ve been reminiscing a lot lately with old music, and Billy Joel has been one of my main focal points. He is my dad’s favorite singer, so I know a lot of his music. So while going back, I stumbled upon this brand new Bmore remix by DJ Soap. This is perfect! He chopped up the piano just enough to make it bounce and kept most of the song/vocals the same. I think my dad will approve!
The Bombers - Shake. I’m taking it back to 1979 with this joint. Stumbled upon this on the Hollerboard after someone posted it. SWEET JESUS! This shit is so damn funky. I have been missing this in my life. The synth work on this is crazy, and the congo player is straight bananas! I can’t get enough of this shit. Seriously!
Miami has a history of many indie hip-hop weekly’s popping up with some staying for the long run, and most bailing out after a couple months. MURK’d is the newest one and they hope to be around for a while. With party hosts Parable and MovieBoy, and resident DJs Madame Turk and Salami Fingaz they might have a chance.
This week is a special MURK’d because the party host himself will be performing. Parable spent two years traveling and dominating the national battle circuit, including gaining high ranks in Scribble Jam and the World Rap Championship. Now he returns to show Miami that there’s more substance to his aggressive battle raps, with thought-provoking songs containing vivid displays of life, struggle, love and hate.
Also performing this week are Fresh Basil familiaThe Leftouts. The crew consists of Miami heavyweights Wrekonize, Myagi, and DJ Sharpsound. Even though this is their first live performance, these Miami veterans have been building a strong buzz within the Miami hip-hop scene with their solid songs. Local MC Thousand Thoughts will also be performing.
So come check out the good vibes on Thursday night starting at 10pm. Its an 18+ night, with cheap drinks, and a sexy ass pool table. RSVP at murkdmiami (at) gmail (dot) com!
Playaz Circle - Paper Chaser Ft. Phonte. This group slipped my radar at first, and I never would have guessed they would have known who Phonte was. I posted this song on Music Mondays way back, and they finally made a video for it. Classic shit. Lots of slow motion shots, and plenty of cuties throughout the video. And Phonte finally getting his major shine on. Play on playa!
Kraak & Smaak - Squeeze me. This is a fresh ass video that I just had to share. These dudes are legendary diggers, and they put out some nice funk and breakbeat type music. This is a good example. Great song, and a really clever video to match. I used to want to get one of those flippies for myself, but I guess I really have to now!
Wu-Tang Clan - The Heart Gently Weeps. This is arguably the best song off of Wu-Tang’s last album. RZA sampled a classic Beatles joint and just “Wu-Tang’ed” it all out. The video is pretty fresh, with cameo’s from RZA & GZA. However, no Ghostface, Raekwon, or Method Man though. I wonder what happened. The crew has bene having problems lately, but they should haev come together for this video.
The lovely Estelle will be performing at Culture Room tonight, with help from John Legend.
Her new album doesn’t come out until April 29th, but I already previewed a few of the tracks in last week’s Music Mondays. So for those who paid attention, you know what to expect, nothing but classy R&B and soulful good times.
This past weekend we had porn stars running all over Miami Beach. That already happens daily with BangBros running things down here, but this weekend was special. There was the Exxxotica Convention going on which brought out many talented women out in mass. And what a better way to start off the week with the now infamous lollipop song. Enjoy.
Lil Wayne vs DJ Flipsta - Lollipop Remix(no download). Whenever there is a new smash pop hit, there emerges 20,000 remixes to match. Of all the ones I’ve heard so far, the homie DJ Flipsta comes correct again and makes another fresh club house banger. Like always, there’s just enough changeups to keep it moving, sure to kill any dancefloor. Dope.
9th Wonder & Buckshot Ft. Talib Kweli - Hold It Down. Here is some real hip-hop for the heads. 9th Wonder has been quiet for a minute while he works with some of the bigger R&B heavyweights in the game. But now he’s back with some gutter hip-hop to keep shit alive.
David Banner - Seein Thangs. This is one of the realest dudes in the “rap industry”. Always been. If you;ve never seen him speak on real issues, then doitnow. On this track, he hooks up with DJ Shadow again, and puts together some deep lyrics over a hard ass beat. No homo.
Dwele - I’m Cheatin. Not sure if I have ever put up a track by the homie Dwele, but this shit right here is killing it. A song about cheating is always some difficult shit to pull off, but who better to do it than the Detroit soul master. One of the dopest singers out right now.
Jackson 5 - Never Can Say Goodbye (Dela Remix). When I came across this song, I wasn’t too sure who Dela was. But of course, anything featuring MJ has got to be heard, so I was all ears. Then I was blown away! This remix is crazy! The drums on this are killer, adding much flavor to the smooth synths in the background. And of course, the young MJ straight kills it on the vocals. Perfect.
Fugees vs Goldrocc - Ready Or Not (BMORE REMIX). This is one of the most classic hip-hop songs of all time, and now its coming back club style for the ‘08. DJ Goldrocc took the infamous horns and added a nicely chopped bmore drum track. There is enough change ups to keep this song banging throughout, and Lauryn’s voice hypes it up. Great remix!
Beyonce - Beautiful Nightmare. This is a newest single from Hov’s girl. Rumors are spreading that this might be her last album. She definitely doesn’t need any more money, and I’m not sure what else she needs to accomplish in the music biz. She has had a brilliant career so far, and this new song is a nice new step. Beat is lovely.
Kraak & Smaak - Bobby & Whitney. I’m telling you now, the cowbell is making a comeback in ‘08. Believe it. This joint can sure any fever, and even has ill lyrics to match. Yeah, they talking about the real Bobby and Whitney. Real shit right here.
DJ Sega - Mad All Over Again. Here is some brand new Bmore shit from one of the best dudes doing it right now, DJ Sega. He flipped a nice reggae joint, and made it an uptempo club banger. Gunshots and all, this track keeps it hype.
The Deuce Crew fam will be starting a new weekly at Jazid. It starts tonight, and will be every Tuesday here on forward. This week, party starters DJ Mike Deuce and DJ DS363 will be joined by special guest DJ Obi of Money Shot fame. The night will definitely pop off right.
For those that never been to Jazid, its good times. Nice lounge area in the bottom, with a nice pool table upstairs and a solid dance area. And by just looking at the video, you have to go! Best video ad ever!
Lupe Fiasco - Paris, Tokyo. This is probably my favorite track off of Lupe’s new album. Smooth ass beat, and lovely rhymes. The video takes Lupe to many countries, and shows him trying to show off some stylish clothes. Not bad.
The Roots - Birthday Girl Ft. Patrick Stump. This is a real interesting track from The Roots, which will not appear on their upcoming album. In an interview Quest was talking about how this song doesn’t really fit well with all the other songs on the album. But they decided to put it out anyways cause it was some interesting shit.
Peter Rosenberg - Duke Fan Stan. This guy has been clowning on the internet for a while now. But don’t let that fool you. He got the illest radio show in New York right now, bringing back that good ol’ hip-hop and giving independent artists a chance. Check him out.
Estelle will be gracing the Culture Room with host John Legend. Lets hope he performs too! Even if he doesn’t this will be a great show! Show is mad cheap, only $15.
When it comes to R&B, I’m such a sucker for new artists. It gets hard though because there aren’t that many new R&B singers that really got that style and grace to really penetrate the scene. But once every couple years a person like Estelle comes along. She has been around for a minute, but has only just recently been getting a lot of fame and notoriety. This might have been a direct correlation to John Legend signing her to his new label. But the song with Kanye really bumped her up there too.
Her new album due out later this month is fantastic! What’s even more fantastic is that she will be in Ft. Lauderdale on April 22nd to perform! John Legend will also be in the building to host the event. This will surely be a night to remember. So in preparation, here are a couple tracks off her new album, and a bunch of other new tracks.
Estelle - No Substitute Love. There are many great songs on her album, but for some reason this one stands out to me. It’s my favorite so far, but I’m sure I’ll change my mind a few times before I finally settle. This song has a lovely guitar ridden beat with the classic Al Green drum track behind it. It kind of has a soft reggae feel to it, with just enough bounce to keep you guessing.
Estelle - You Are Ft. John Legend. Its been a while since I’ve heard some new John Legend material, so this was a nice surprise. A very nice uptempo beat with lovely vocals dropped by both singers. They compliment each other well throughout the song and even chime in together during the chorus. Sounds like it should have been on John’s last album. So nice.
Gnarls Barkley - No Time Soon. Took me a minute to digest the new Gnarls Barkley album. Been so busy with a bunch of stuff, but I must say that this album is worth everyone’s time. So original, and such a breath of fresh air in today’s current pop music culture. DangerMouse is incredible on the beats, and Cee-Lo continues to deliver amazing vocal tracks. This is one of the tracks that stood out to me. So lovely.
Trina - Hot Commidity Ft. Rick Ross. I was going over Trina’s album the other day, not really expecting much. Skipped a bunch of tracks, but then came to this song at the very end. Sick! Beat is crazy and both Trina and Ross come off real nice. Seems like they put this song at the end cause its not the usual Trina type of shit. So maybe that’s a good thing.
Outkast - Royal Flush Ft. Raekwon. One of hip-hop’s best groups ever is finally returning with more product. They’ve made several appearances lately, including the infamous track with DJ Drama, “Art Of Storytellin 4″. This track features classic Wu member Raekwon, as they rap over a ridiculous beat. The bassline is infectious, and the horns keep it moving as the handclaps top it off nice. Quality shit!
The Game - Big Dreams. Mr. Namedrop finally comes back with some new shit, and its pretty banging. Hard ass beat with some straight rhymes makes it blog worthy. Cool and Dre provided the beat, and The Game drops his usual verse, dropping like 3,000 names through ought the song.
Atmosphere - Guarantees. Slug & Ant were doing it real big for a while, and then they disappeared to nowhere. Looks like they are finally returning with some new product. This is the B-Side off the new single they got out. This one held my interests more because its so fresh and sounds like nothing else. Nice guitar riffs is al Slug needed to paint a picture with his words.
Black Grass - Set It Straight Ft. J-Live. Here is another song with some nice guitar work. I’m on a roll today. I never heard of Black Grass before, but J-Live comes off nice as usual. Smooth beat, smooth rhymes, and just an overall good vibes type of track. Sweet.
2 Pistols Ft. T-Pain - She Got It (Vanguards Uptempo REMIX). Here is some pop cheese for you, but that good kind! I think I posted this song already, but this is the uptempo remix. The original track is so fucking dope to me–T-Pain kills it as usual, dropping a chorus that makes you forget about the rest of the song. The uptempo version is pulled off real nice, and it doesn’t show any noticeable hiccups that uptempo remixes usually show.
I’m back with a bunch of new singles and remixes! Mostly electro shit this time around, but I’ve dropped a classic new single from Busta. Shit hits hard on some old 90s hip-hop type vibe, and I’m sure its gonna take off big real soon. Listen to the songs in the player below or click the link to download from Zshare.
Busta Rhymes - Don’t Touch Me. Brand new single from Busta, like whoa! Shit is crazy! Busta never disappoints with his club shit. Seems like every year, Busta always comes back with a crazy club banger, staying relevant in the music game since the early 90s. This one takes a step back actually, and has a sick drum break reminiscent of some old school Leaders of the New School shit.
Marsha Ambrosius Ft. The Game - Whats Going On. I’m not sure what the deal is with Floetry nowadays, as Marsha has been doing a lot of sidework. Here is a single she has out, possibly for her new album. Not sure. Either way, this song features a verse form The Game, and uses a classic sample that I’m sure you’ll recognize. Not bad.
Johnny Kemp - Just Got Paid (DJ Illo Remix). The Illo man has been putting out some great remixes for a minute. This is another great example. This Johnny Kemp track is a pretty classic New Jack song, but he flipped it on some Bmore type steez. He gave it just enough bounce to hype it up more, but didn’t over do it. Proper club track right here.
Ne-Yo - Closer. This is a nice pop cheese track that I’ve been hearing on the radio a lot while on my way home from work. Ne-Yo is one of the biggest R&B acts right now, and he keeps dropping quality records to keep his status quo up. I think the beat could be a bit harder, especially if they emphasized the bass track a bit more. Regardless, this shit is hot.
LMFAO - Lil Hipster Girl. When I first heard about this group, I wasn’t too sure what to think. I thought it was a joke at first, cause of the first parody song I heard from them, and their myspace profile. However, over time, they’ve been releasing some pretty serious heat. This is a new track, on some heavy electro type steez. Shit bangs!
Wiley - Wearing My Rolex. I met a bunch of dudes from London during WMC a couple weeks ago. They were talking to me about grime and dubstep music, which is real big over there. Dizzie Rascal being one of the main artists. Not sure what category this one falls into, but this song goes hard! Beat is crazy, and the vocals are mad fresh while complementing the rapping.
Shiny Toy Guns - Le Disko. This song has been out for a while already. However, I decided to post it cause I just officially got their single with a bunch of remixes on it. None of the remixes were as dope as the original. So here it is. Indie electro rock, or whatever you want to classify this ass. Crazy beat with dope vocals, I like.
Masta Ace - Jeep Ass (Samir Gutter Remix). Here is another Bmore type song, featuring a classic hip-hop track from one of my favorite rappers, Masta Ace. The original song is a certified hood classic, and this Bmore remix is pretty fresh on its own right. What is interesting about this remix is that it doesn’t use the usual Bmore drum track (Lyn Collins - Think). Instead, it sounds very much like the opening drum track from Company Flow’s “Vital Nerve”. Dope!
Bobby Caldwell - My Flame. I’m taking a trip back down memory lane for this one. This is a classic Bobby Caldwell track which you might recognize from another classic joint, Biggie’s“Sky’s The Limit”. That is probably one of the best hip-hop videos ever. Song is so smooth, much like most of Bobby’s work. So essential.
Students in FIU’s Music Business class will be having a record release party for their semester project. Its going to be a wild party with special guests. Free all night.
Miami’s own ArtnWater.com will be having a pop up store for 2 days. They are clearing out room for the new Spring collection. So come out and grab some nice clothes on sale! April 26-27.
