Tonight there is going to be a fresh ass party at the Vagabond. Scion has teamed up with IHEARTCOMIX for a little mini tour promoting their new mix. Put otgether by IHEARTCOMIX CEO himself, Franki Chan, the mix CD is a various blend of funky, indie dance music. Check it out here.
Many dope DJs will be in attendance, including Franki Chan, Radiocl*t, and Drop The Lime. The thing is thoguh, to get in, you have to RSVP. So if you haven’t done it already, do it now over here. Check out the video flyer below.
Jamie Lidell - Another Day (LIVE). You know how I love live performances. Peeps this recent one on Conan’s show by Jamie Lidell. He’s been changing up his live shows a lot lately. He used to perform solo, straight killing it on the beatbox tip. But now he’s gotten a lot more soulful and performs with a band. Good shit overall, but check his sax player killing 2 horns at the same time around the 3:25 mark. Crazy!
Sharon Jones - Nobody But You. Here is another strong performance on Conan a few weeks ago by Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings. First time I ever heard of Sharon Jones was back in 2005, on Conan’s show. So its nice to see them back on there killing it again. Surely one of hte best bands out there right now.
Cut Copy - Hearts On Fire. This song has been out for mad long already. Some typically “blog house” shit that has been lurking through the interwebs endlessly. Still a fresh song though. THe video came out pretty dope too.
Censor Bar Art. I have no idea who sings this song, but I do recognize Dizzee Rascal in towards the middle. Not sure why they got him to rap on this track, but overall the songs is fresh. But the video is fucking crazy! Really original. They never show any private parts, but it still might not be safe for work. Enjoy!
John Legend - Green Light Ft. Andre 3000. The king of R&B right now is returning with a new album soon. This is the first song to leak, and it is straight up fire! Andre 3000 drops a great verse as always, and John just does his thing well. There’s no piano playing on this one, which is always weird to hear John without. But still dope nonetheless.
Solange - I Decided. Here is another R&B banger from an artist I know nothing about. After finding out a bit, I can tell you that Solange is a pretty lady from Houston< Texas that makes fresh neo-soul music. She's got other dope songs including one featuring Lil Wayne. I’m definitely going to start checking out for her.
The Roots - Birthday Girl Ft. Fall Out Boy. Keeping the smooth tip going, here is a song that didn’t make The Roots last album. It was actually their first single, but didn’t end up making the album cause it was too “pop-ish”. Shit is really fresh though, and the video is superb. I posted it up before, so check it out if you haven’t. It has one of the cutest porn chics in the video, playing along to the lyrics of the song.
Danny Fernanded - Curious Ft. Juelz Santana. This is another R&B banger that is currently topping the charts right now. Seems like this guy came out of nowhere, and Juelz helped him with this track. The beat is smooth, and danceable as well. Lovely track.
T-Pain - Church (Bimbo Jones REMIX). I was on vacation this weekend in the Keys, and while in the car I heard the sample used for this song. Brought me back to how dope this remix was. Crazy bassline and heavy hitting guitar work done throughout the instrumental. They mixed it with one of T-Pain’s less known singles and created a dope club song.
Tittsworth - Broke Ass Nigga (DJ Assault Remix). The homie Tittsworth finally is releasing a vinyl single with a bunch of hits that have been leaking on the internet forever. This was one of those tracks. However, it got remixed by another heavyweight in the game, DJ Assault. Doesn’t sound like the original at all, and is actually pretty dope on its own.
Santogold - Creator (Scottie B REMIX). Another monster in the Bmore scene is the homie Scottie B. This guy has been doing it forever, and continues to frequently drop new remixes. This one is real basic, with some nice changeups for the chorus. Hot shit.
Vanilla Ice - Ninja Rap. Nothing to explain about this track. Just pure fire. If you don’t know this, where the fuck did you grow up?? Pay attention kiddies.
iHeartComix will be presenting Radiocl*t, Drop The Lime, and Franki Chan on a beautiful night in the Design District, Miami. Enjoy the free giveaways, and good times with great DJs. Free with RSVP.
Raheem DeVaughn will be joined by Chrisette Michele in what will be a soulful night in Miami Beach. Two amazing Neo-Soul singers together in one night. What more can you ask for?
So yeah its been a minute since ive posted on here but i recently had the opportunity to visit the land of cheesesteaks and freeway look a likes….yup you guessed it Philly. The occasion, the highly anticipated Roots Picnic. The setting, a scorching 102 degree day at the Festival Pier. The artists, The Roots, Gnarls Barkley, Sharon Jones & Dap Kings, J Davey, Cool Kids, Esperanza Spalding, Jazzy Jeff and the sounds of Diplo. Aside from the blistering heat and occasional issues with the mics (Sharon Jones), there were some standout performances.
The opener, Esperanza Spalding is the absolute truth! She’s an extremely talented singer that plays a variety of instruments. J Davey followed with a blazing set, accompanied by Questlove on the drums doing tracks off their mixtape, a cover of the classic Police track “S.O.S.” and the newest Questlove produced track “Turn the lights out”.
A barefoot Sharon Jones took the stage shortly after with the Dap Kings and stole the show in usual fashion by doing traditional west african dances, calling fans onstage and performing with an incredible level of intensity. The Cool Kids had a respectable performance and Diplo kept the crowd hype in the side tent. Gnarls Barkley was stellar even though the fans were not familiar with some of the newer songs off the album prompting Cee-Lo to ask, “damn do y’all have the album?? “.
The best part of the night came towards the end of the show when Black Thought brought Leonard Hubbard on stage and did the classic “Proceed”. Cehck the video above! Seeing the Roots perform is always good but seeing them perform tracks off Do You Want More??IN PHILLY?? Classic. Best concert of the year up until now, well see how the Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival and Rock the Bells compare. Shouts to my DC Empress crew!
It took me a while to finally listen to 9th Wonder’ssecond album with Buckshot. But I’m glad I did. 9th is still coming with that heat on the beats, and Buckshot drops his usual hard rhymes. These are two of the dopest tracks off the album in my opinion.
The first song opens off the album nice! Crazy smooth beat with a nice vocal sample. 9th flipped this one crazy. The second song is another nice sample flip, more on the smooth neo-soul tip. Carlitta Durand adds some nice flavor to the track, and the track just has a sexy ass feel.
Guilty Simpson - Footwork (Madlib Remix). Here is soem more grimey ass hip-hop for your ass. Guilty is still that dude. This guy’s swagger is incredible, and his rhyming patterns are dope. Madlib grabbed one of his latest tracks and gave it his own spin. Sick!
Clipse - Show You How To Hustle. This looks like a new track from the Virginia boys. Sounds like classic Clipse to me, mad shit talking and talking about ‘cane. You know you love it.
Paper Route Gangstaz - Grind Baby. The PRG’z have been putting out a few songs here and there, very sporadically. I’m not sure where they are from, or who they are affiliated with, but they are making some fresh ass music. Its like crunk music with that soul feeling. Say word? Exactly. Listen up, shit is dope.
Lloyd Ft. Lil Wayne - Girls Around The World (Ross Hogg Remix). I posted the original a couple weeks back, but this remix is pretty nice as well. The original is untouchable, but this remix gives it a whole new feel. I’m sure it will come in handy to some DJs out there.
Kenna & Lupe Fiasco - Say Goodbye T Love (Remix). This is a pretty old song, but it recently got remixed. Lupe Fiasco jumped on the track and dropped a couple verses. Not much changed, so if you liked the original, you’ll probably like this one too.
DJ Technics - What Not What. Lastly, the Bmore song of the week. Straight enegry pumping out of this fucking song. Lil Jon is all over it with his usual rants about nothing, making the hype beat even more exciting. Dance to this shit fuckers.
If you catch yourself hanging all around the internets, then you already know who this dude is. If not, then go freshen up your knowledge! Cobra Krames will be spending some time down in the dirty this Thursday. He will be spinning at one of Miami’s best parties right now, MONEY $HOT.
Krame’s style is all about energy. From beginning to end, he plays the hypest tracks, ranging from Bmore to the gulliest electro shit. But not only is he a dope DJ, he is also a dope remixer of the sorts. I’ve posted many of his jams on here before, but just to freshen up your memory, here is what you can expect from the purple shirt wearing monster….
DJ Krames will be the special guest at this weeks Money$hot party. If you haven’t checked hung out for this party yet, this is a good time to start, believe me! FREE before 12.
Major League Ft. Streets Buchanon - Fly With The Time. The homies Major League from Ft. Laudy put together a nice video for their new song, featuring Streets Buchanon. It was directed by Miami video director vet, Haviken Hayes. Song is dope, and the video came out fresh. It was shot at Hi-Top Studio, which happens to be Lex One’s store. Killa!
.
Nas - Be A Nigger Too. The long awaited controversial album will finally be coming out real soon! This is the first video for the risky single he put out, with is filled with a enough N-words to make Papa Bear get all frizzled up. The video was shot well, and has a bunch of extra footage. The intro at the beginning is supposedly the intro for the album, and it has an extra song in the end. Powerful stuff.
Gnarls Barkley - Going On (Live). Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman to perform my favorite song off their album! Not as dramatic as some of their other performances, but still dope. Looks like they still having fun with the costumes and shit. Best dudes out right now.
This week’s Music Mondays will be a lil heavy on the street rap tip. Got some good stuff recently and just had to share. Plus, I heard a lot of people were disappointed with the “Paid Dues” show this weekend. So hopefully this helps!
Yung LA Ft. Young Dro & T.I. - Aint I Remix. Heard this on the radio the other day, and i thought it was crazy! Crunk tracks are really hit or miss with me. And most the time, its just some real hype shit with lyrics making no sense. This shit is smooth though, but still hard as fuck. So dope.
Keak Da Sneak Ft. Prodigy - That Go Remix. I don’t know what it is about being in trouble or going to jail, but it seems thats when people really start to step it up (see R. Kelly). Prodigy has been putting out heat lately, and this verse is straight butter! Crazy beat and solid verses. This shit is grimey.
Bun B Ft. Chino XL & Killer Mike - Some Hoes. This song caught my eye, cause what the fuck is Bun B doing with Chino XL? Made me chuckle for real. The song came out pretty cool though. Nice verses, and a proper beat.
J Dilla Ft. Bilal - Remember. I never heard this track, and I’m not sure where it came from. But its some real smooth Jay Dee shit as always. It features Bilal dropping some nice vocals, and is produced by none other than Pete Rock. Cool to see two legends working together.
Ryan Leslie Ft. Cassie & Fabolous - Addiction Remix. Anything this guy touches is golden. One of the best R&B dudes in teh game right now, and this track proves it. Ryan features Cassie & Fabolous on this song, and they all do their part to make this song flow nice.
Rza - You Can’t Stop Me Now. Wu-Tang released a couple videos for their last album. But of course, you know Rza always stay working hard, and he already got some new shit cooking. This video is fresh. Nothing too spectacular, but it has a real eery feeling to it thats matches the song so well.
Jamie Lidell - Another Day. This dude is THAT dude right now. One of the coolest guys out, and his live shows are amazing! This is a fun video for the single off his last album. Lots of cool effects, and just nice cinematography. Keep doing it kid!
Muscles - Sweaty (Shazam Remix). You’ve probably already seen this video, as it was featured on YouTube. If not, pay attention! I’m not sure if its an official video, but thats the name of the artist/song playing in the background. The visuals are amazing! Like Chapelle once demonstrated, everything in slow motion just looks better… well, most things.
Lil Wayne Ft. Jay-Z - Mr. Carter. This is a monumental leak off Weezy’s new album. This track features none other than Jay-Z. This is their second song together, and it is fire! Beat is nice, and both drop some crazy verses.
Red Eyez Ft. Birdman & Lil Wayne - Bling Blaw. This is an unrelated track, but features the boy Weezy, as well as Birdman. The beat on this is crazy to me. Real thick with some nice organs. The chorus is dope too, which uses a sample from Ludacris. Overall, this is a killer “pop rap” song.
Rza Ft. Monk & Thea - Drama. I’m a sucker for many things, and hip-hop beats with heavy piano playing is one of them. RZA comes correct on this song, making a soothing beat that allows Thea to eloquently lay down some nice vocals. Lyrics are dope as well.
Nelly Ft. Akon - Body On Me. Here is another piano heavy beat. More on the poppish side, with Akon doing his thing as usual. But still every dope. You can’t hate Nelly for still being around!
Jamie Lidell - Little Bit Of Feel Good (Dorian Concept Remix). I’ve posted up soem of Jamie’s stuff before. And as always, he never disappoints. This one is interesting because it is a remix. A pretty fresh remix. The beat has a smooth electronic feel to it, accompanying Jamie’s voice well.
CL Smooth Ft. Skyzoo - Perfect Timing. It seems like CL Smooth was never able to get his shit together since breaking up with Pete Rock. A lot of his stuff is hit or miss. This one is pretty nice. The beat is smooth, and the chorus fits well. Nice track.
Camp Lo - Lumdi. This is an interesting hip-hop group cause they have been around for so long, and have constantly kept changing to stay current. This song is dope cause of its weirdly sampled vocal beat. This was real big a few years back when Kanye & Just Blaze were running the production game. They still are, but not with these types of beats. Shit is dope.
Lupe Fiasco - Superstar (acoustic version). Not only am I a sucker for piano beats, but also acoustic versions of songs. Its hard to find acoustic hip-hop songs, so this one is surprising. Came out real dope!
