Our crew reigns supreme in Miami, home skillet. Lean back with the bullshit, and sweat the steez.
A crew of DJs, producers, sneaker heads, scenesters... fresh people, period. We be all over Miami son. Our goal is to spread good music, and put you on to dope events.
The homies kn own as Baggins Family have put together this nice lil MPC tutorial for all you chumps on the interwebs! Pay attention and you might learn a lil something, son!
Most might not get the context. But if you ever seen all them old school videos of people acting all hard trying to show you how to work the MPC, you might find it funnier. I make a brief cameo towards the end. Holla!
Meant to post this way back when it happened before I disappeared. Nonetheless, here it is for those that missed it. Nas appeared on the Colbert Report for both an interview and a performance. This was back when he dropped the 620,127 signatures he collected to protest Fox News.
Nas vs Colbert. In his little chat with Colbert, Nas stood his ground and really expressed himself well. We all knew he would, but I’m sure Papa Bear was all mad about this. As always, Colbert interjected with ridiculous sarcasm which is hilarious because that’s how all these radical people who talk shit about hip-hop really feel. “I certainly blame Bing Crosby for White Christmas every time it snows”. Classic.
Nas then performed “Sly Fox” after the break. So dope that he got a “mainstream” audience to hear this song. So essential.
And here is some nice bonus footage I found on Colbert’s site. Before his appearance on the show, Nas was cooling out backstage playing some Tom Sawyer jams on Rock Band. He’s better than me!
I usually post new music videos every Tuesday. Most I find interesting, and some are jsut new songs to check. But today, I’m posting a few videos that just blew my mind. All pretty new, and all of them amazing! So grab some popcorn homies!
Gnarls Barkley - Who’s Gonna Save My Soul. This was by far the best song in the album, and now it has the best video of all the singles. Simply stunning. This video basically put into words what happens to tons of people daily. “…and unfortunately, none of them will be able to measure up to the false memory of what you and I once had…”. Amazing. Its cool they put the skit in the middle of the whole song, this kind of song is too deep for just visuals, even though the broken heart walking through the diner was stunning on its own.
Gotye - Hearts a Mess. Got put on to this guy by a friend. I was totally sleeping on this for a while, but damn, this is incredible. The song is fantastic, but the video is just pure madness. I haven’t seen anything like this in a while, but it kind of remind me of the “Nightmare Before Christmas” flick. The eerily shaped singer seems to be going across the world looking for people to take to a new world. It has real dark colors, but I don’t find it to be that dark in the sense. Very fresh.
Shad - The Old Prince Still Lives at Home. This video right here was a long time coming. I’m surprised it took this long for someone to finally flip the Fresh Prince show intro. This is actually the first time I hear of Shad, and I’m sure its the first time for most people. This video will really get him mad exposure though. Clever ass video, and funny ass lyrics. I’m feeling it yo!
Its been a very long three weeks, but we are finally back! Sweet jesus! This site is in the midst of some changes, so bear with us. But here we are with another edition of music mondays fo’ yo’ ass.
Had to start off with the Obama video cause it is so epic! That must have taken forever to put together. Classic material. I also had to throw in a couple Obama related songs. There were too many to drop. I never seen this kind of presidential fever in hip-hop. But then again, I haven’t been around long, and neither has hip-hop.
Big Boi - Sumthins Gotta Give Ft. Mary J Blige. One of the better “pro-Obama” songs. This beat is pretty sick, on some smooth type shit with some nice rhode action going on. Sounds like a live bass as well. Big Boi is stepping it up on this one.
Ludacris - Obama Is Here. This one is blatantly more “pro-Obama”. Luda even got in a bit of trouble with this cause of the shit he said about Hillary. You know Papa Bear O’reilly got all mad and all those other old white folks who just don’t get it. Good tune.
Murs - Can It Be. One of the most original rappers in the game right now, Murs keeps on bringing it hard. This is on some good old hip-hop steez with a fresh ass beat. As always, Murs keeps it real with soem nice storytelling and strong lyrics.
J Dilla & Ghostface Killah - Murder Goons. Not quite sure where this came from, but makes you wish Dilla never left. Ghostface should have been messing with Dilla way before Fish Scale. Dilla gave him a few beats for that album, but he should have been around to give him more. Dilla + Ghost is just too damn dope.
Termanology & Bun B - How We Rock. This is some fresh new boom bap from one of the pioneers, DJ Premier. He teams up with Termanology again, and they get Bun B to jump on as well. This is just some straight up no frills, hip-hop gutter shit. Pretty cool, but gets kind of boring towards the end.
DJ Pharris - The Money Ft. Busta Rhymes, R Kelly & Fabolous. Damn, some more heavy hip-hop shit. I’m going in hard today, pause. This one is a bit more poppy, with R. Kelly on the hook. But fuck, the beat hits hard! Them flutes, or whatever it is, are fresh as fuck. Dope beat, dope concept!
Ida Corr - Ride My Tempo (wideboys remix). Gotta cool it down with some new house. This is a nice remix by the infamous Wideboys. Not too heavy, but still thick enough to bang out your speakers. Watch out for this one.
DJ Khaled - Out Here Grinding (Amphibious Club Remix). Here is a fresh Bmore track with minimal vocals. Amphibious took Khaled’s current single, and basically took the best part, Akon’s vocals. Pretty slick track with some heavy synths to back up the Bmore drum track. Try this out on the dance floor.
Money $hit will be killing it with DJ Craze and DJ Dave Nada on the decks. Both of these bring incredible energy on the decks, so expect this to be the wildest party you’ll go to in a while. $10.
Atmosphere will be down in Miami again for the first time in a few years. They’ve released a bunch of material since their last appearance, so don’t miss this.
I wasn’t in the mood to put up new music this week, so here are a bunch of classics you probably don’t know about. Its the roller boogie/smooth funk edition of classics.
Midnight Star - Midas Touch. This is probably the most recognizable song out out of all the ones I’m posting. Smooth as fuck, this song is just pure fire on the dance floor. It has a very danceable beat, and dope as vocals. The dude singing has some nice swagger as well, singing about how everything he touches turns to gold. Wish I had that power son!
Zapp And Roger - More Bounce To The Ounce. I think I lied. This might be the most recognizable song out of all these. Especially foe the hip =-hop heads who read this blog. This song was sampled by the classic EPMD joint, “You Gotz To Chill”. Pure funk, with a nice talkbox effect on the vocals. If you can’t do a robot to this song, then you are a failure as a human being. Word.
Stargard - Wear It Out. This right here is one of my favorite disco/boogie joints. The beat is so butta! Check out the open hi-hats adding flavor to the drums, with a nice hand clap sounding snare. Plus, the vocals on this are very nice.
Mary Jane Girls - Candy Man. Here’s another crazy joint that gets a lot of play from me. Produced by the one and only Rick James, this joint has crazy flavor and sex appeal. The Mary Jane Girls got mad soul, and this joint proves it.
War - Galaxy. This is another one of those pretty famous joints. This one goes out to the b-boys, holla. A crazy bassline back by probably the dopest piano loop ever. The congos and cowbell add much appreciated thickness to the backbeat, giving much room for the singers to do their thing.
Temptations - Treat Her Like A Lady. Here is a classy song, from back when they used to sing about being nice to women. This is DJ Sharpsound’s favorite boogie/80s R&B joint. Not a bad choice. The beat is mad smooth, with nice bells added to give it a thick feeling. Plus, everyone knows how smooth them Temptations boys can get. Send this song to your lover, homeslice.
Carter And Chanel - Tonight Is Right. Slowing it down a bit, check out this funky ass track that was sampled before. Can’t exactly remember by who, but maybe you can tell me. Such a funky ass groove, with soulful vocals. You can’t hear songs like this anymore. Such a rare treat.
Leroy Hutson - Love To Hold You Close. Another smooth classic by a funky ass brother. The boy Leroy knows how to get down on some smooth soul shit, and this song shows you that. Such an amazing backbeat, with perfect vocals throughout. Try not feeling good after hearing this.
