Music Mondays — How about some hardcore!
September 29th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

M.O.P. - Monster. This is not a group I like to promote often cause they are a bunch of dicks. But when the shit is good, you gotta represent. This is a monster beat literally, and they hype up the track as usual.

Krumb Snatcha - Feeling. Not sure where this dude has been over the years, but this track is amazing! He uses a Kanye verse on the hook straight from Common’s “The Corner”. Feels so dope, with a soothing beat with nice dramatic presence.

Krumb Snatcha - Mind Power. Another banger from the Krumb man. This is a thick beat with some crazy electro guitar in the background and heavy drums. This is straight gutter shit.

Prodigy - Stop Stressin. The 4 foot rapper returns with some hotness. Don’t know if he is recording while in the pen, or if he just recorded mad shit right before he went in. This is classic P right here though, mobster beat, mobster lyrics. Kill it!

Illa J & Guilty Simpson - R U Listenin. Here is some new shit by Dilla’s younger brother. I’m not sure what how to feel about this guy yet. He definitely has some skills, but still has a long way to go. This song is ok.

Scarface, Lil Wayne & Bun B - Forgot About Me. Weezy still shows no sign of slowing down. He drops another dope verse on a Scarface track featuring Bun B as well. They rhyme over a hard ass beat, what Scarface usually gets. This is some good tough shit.

Reks, Termanology & Skyzoo - Money On The Ave Remix. Three of the biggest indie cats coming up right now teamed up for a track. Its a mellow type track with gutter lyrics. Sounds like an Alchemist beat to me, but who knows what it is. Knocks pretty well.

Tame One & Del The Funky Homosapien - Catch Me. I still love piano used in hip-hop songs. This one is pretty sweet. Hits hard as fuck, and both MCs come off real nice.

Cool Kids return, as well as Common (VIDEO)
September 24th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Cool Kids - Delivery Man. New music and video from Fresh Basil favorites, The Cool Kids. Overall this is a dope video. Nice visuals, nice transitions… good shit. These guys are still low budget, but they making vids that compete with the big dogs.

Common - Announcement. Rap legend Common will be returning with a new album real soon. Here is the first single for those that haven’t already seen it. Kinda off ehhh… but I’ma support. This album might be hot!

Bert & Ernie - Ante Up. This one is thrown up for fun. Some of you might have already seen it, some might not have. Pretty classic. Bert and Ernie look crazy lip syncing to one of M.O.P.’s hardest songs.

Music Mondays — Grimey shit fo yo ass.
September 24th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Jake One - The Truth Ft. Freeway & Brother Ali. Kicking off this week with some real hip-hop shit, yo! If you don’t know about Jake One, get up on it! He’s one of the dopest up and coming producers in the hip-hop game right now, making hits for people like De La Soul and 50 Cent. He’s working on an album right now, featuring tons of emcees paired up with each other. Freeway and Brother Ali??? Who would have thought. Dope song.

Jake One - Trap Door Ft. MF DOOM. This other leaked song is pretty official too. Beat is classy in a jazzy way, just like MF DOOM likes it.

Large Professor - Hardcore Hip Hop. Haven’t heard from this dude in a while, but looks like he’s still got some heat. This beat is pretty ridiculous. On some straight up grimey boom bap New York shit.

Bangers & Cash (Spank Rock & Benny Blanco) - Loose (Estaw REMIX). This is a remix I slept on for a while. But hearing it again now, shit blows my mind. The bass on this song is so damn thick, and the way Estaw flips the beat is crazy.

T-Pain - Can’t Believe It Ft. Lil Wayne (B-Flat Trance-More REMIX). This is currently a major hit on the radio right now, and this remix took it even further I think. The song got transformed from a sexy love ballad to a smooth ass Bmore dancefloor filler. Hotness.

Mariah Carey vs Designer Drugs - I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time (REMIX). Blog house veterans Designers Drugs entered a contest to remix this Mariah Carey song. I don’t think they won, but nonetheless, the remix came out fantastic.

Eric Prydz vs Excel - Excelarator’s Pjanoo (REMIX). I’ve been listening to a lot of DJ Excel mixes lately. Guy is fresh as fuck! Aside from being a dope ass DJ, he also provides quality remixes for others to rock. He takes the new hit by Eric Prydz and gives it a nice Bmore feel.

SeSa - Like This Like That (Sinden & The Count Of Monte Cristal REMIX). Last but not least, here is another classy blawg houz remix. You know Sinden and Count of Monte Cristal always come correct with their heavy basslines, keeping this hype for the dancefloor.

Kate Moss and her small titties
September 19th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

kate moss

I must admit, I know nothing about Kate Moss. I’ve known her name ever since I was in middle school though. Just another random supermodel chic, right.

Recently I stumbled upon this recent interview she did with Fashionista. Its a lot more interesting that I would have thought. It amazes me how some people live these fantasy lives that seem so out of this world to regular folk. Such as the story of her and Frank Sinatra… classic. Pictures are included as well with the interview, showing off her itty bitty titties. Cute girl.

She Say Hello! (VIDEO)
September 19th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Bat For Lashes - Whats a Girl To Do. This is a crazy video I’ve been wanting to post for a while, but forgot the name of the artist. Wasn’t really feeling the song at first, but the video just keeps you strapped in to see what happens. Made me end up liking the song at the end. Genius.

John Legend Ft. Andre3000 - Green Light. The Legend is back with some new shit, featuring the illest dude in the rap game right now. As always, Legend comes correct with a clean looking video featuring sexy ass grown women.

Izza Kizza - Hello.Wasn’t quite sure who this was, but the video stood out. If you shooting a low budget video, this is how its supposed to be done! Looks fantastic with the quick changing scenes, and the mixing of live video with stop-motion effects. The breakdown int he middle is pretty classic too.

Music Mondays — Here come the remixes
September 16th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Kanye West - Love Lockdown (Chew Fu Small Room Fix). This song came out last week, and there’s already like 20 remixes of it. I thought the live performance was incredible, but the actual song Kanye released was sounding like shit. But apparently, Kanye heard people complaining and is going to fix it. Either way, this remix is pretty dope. Chew Fu always comes through with the hotness.

Starpoint - Wanting You (Romeo Erotic Remix). I’ve posted a few Romeo Erotic remixes before, but here is another one. Like always, he takes a classic 80s jam and adds just enough to it to make it even better. This edit is so damn smooth, looping an essential part of the song and just vibing out for the rest of the track .

Ill Bill - Society Is Brainwashed. The illest member of Non Phixion is finally returning for his second solo album. He hooks up with DJ Premier again, and drops some heat. Definitely not Premier’s best work, but the track came out pretty nice.

Armand Van Helden - The Funk Phenomena 2008 (Electro Mix). This is a classic AVH track from back in the day that recently got retouched. Same vocals, same idea, except a whole lot more synths. The track is definitely a lot thicker, but the original is a classic in itself. Good edit though!

Machines Dont Care - Afro Jacker (Original Mix). I was sleeping on this track for a while, but had to go back and snatch it up. This beat is pure fire. The drums and percussion on this add nice depth, while the electro synths just take over and give it pure energy.

LMFAO & Pitbull - I’m In Miami Trick (Remix). This is classic Pitbull type shit. He partners with LMFAO out of Cali, and put together a nice club rap song.

Space Cadets over Miami

space station picture

This is a bit random, but I’m sure some of you might appreciate. Found this recent picture taken of the International Space Station hovering over Miami, FL.

When you see the picture blown up, you can clearly make out Florida’s outline, with Miami somewhere beneath the space station. We might have been able to see this at night flyhing by if some sunlight was being reflected of it.

Big brother my friends!

Music Mondays — Can’t Tell Me Nothing!
September 8th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

kanye at vma's

Last night was MTV’s 25th annual VMA award show. I think 25–who cares really. MTV is not what is used to be. But I must say, Kanye’s performance at the end was damn spectacular. He performed what will be his new single, “Love Lockdown”.

Sweet Jesus! This song is amazing! And the tribal drummers on stage added such a dramatic touch. There’s word going around that his next album will be full of stuff like this–aka, no rapping. I really doubt that, but if all the songs sound like this, i wouldn’t be mad.

Kanye West - Love Lockdown (Live at VMAs). This song is going to be huge!!! Expect like 2,000,000 house and electro remixes to jump off this shit.

Mighty Dub Katz - Just Another Groove (Tocadisco Remix). Recenty heard htis on DJ Bana’s live mix. I heard the song before, but never got the chance to grab it. Hearing how she dropped it made me want to have this in my crates. Solid track.

The Body Snatchers Ft. Sporty-O & Yolanda - Call Me (Lee Mortimer Mix). This is a song I was sleeping on for a while, but just like above, I heard this on a couple mixes. Song has everything you need: smooth vocals, sweet synths, and a sick electro changeup. Bang this in the club homeslice.

Selda - 100% Pure Love (Spencer Hill Remix). Was blogging around and stumbled upon this remix of a 90s classic. These remixes are usually hit or miss, but this one came out solid.

Daniel Bedingfield - Gotta Get Through This (DnD Remix). This is another classic getting a bit of a re-touch. The organ sounds on this are so essential to any dance floor.

Dim Chris & Thomas Gold - Self Control. Stumbled upon this on some other mix. Nothing too spectacular, but its just a solid house track to throw in your sets.

Arabian Prince & The Sheiks - Innovative Life. I heard some pretty interesting news recently surrounding one of the 80s electro-rap pioneers, Arabian Prince. Apparently they are going to put out an anthology of his work from 1984-1989. Sweet! Couldn’t think of a better time, as this type of bass/electro-rap has been making a comeback the past year or so.

Herve - Cheap Thrills (Armand Van Helden Remix). Lastly, this is a remix that has been catching buzz lately. The original song is heavy as fuck. It’s nice to see how AVH took it a completely different way.

big record collection
September 4th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

I know I have many DJs who read this blog. Some of you, like myself, are diggers. Well, I used to be a frequent digger on weekends, driving up and down Quail Roost looking for ill collections that old black folks were trying to throw away on weekend garage sales. But now that I got school on Saturdays, and gas is crazy expensive, I seem to have lost some of that action.

Which brings me to this guy. Some of you might know him already. His name is Paul Mahwinney, and he has been digging his whole life. He currently claims to have the worlds biggest record collection, and I don’t think anyone can dispute that. With about 3 million records stashed away in some big warehouse, Paul’s collection is estimated to be worth around $50 million.

He’s been trying to sell his collection for quite some time now. He is now asking for $3 million to buy the whole set. I’m hopign somebody comes up with it soon to save it. Maybe the U.S. Library of Congress? Some big museum in Europe somewhere? Somebody has to do it. In this short piece about his collection, Paul mentions that about 83% of the music from 1948-1966 has not been rerecorded on CD. So 83% of the music from that era can only be found on vinyl. Imagine that.

Notes from a true fucking player
September 3rd, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Are you good with women? Better yet.. Do you want to be good with women?

If so, then television is all you need. There are tons of examples of natural players in TV shows and movies for you to study. People such as Frank Sinatra, James Dean, and of course Quagmire. All these guys are great to study so you can pick up how they use body language, vocal tone, and facial expressions… yada, yada, yada..

But of course, Quagmire is just damn funny too! Adult Swim put together the 10 best Quagmire clips. AMAZING! Check them out here. I picked out my favorite clip ever. I remember busting out laughing hard when I first caught this on TV.

Music Mondays - Laboy Day BBQ Cool Out
September 2nd, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

[bbq picture]

Jimmy Williams - All Of My Lovin. Nothing much to say about this track. Just pure fire. This is what I think Chromeo would sound like if they actually made music in the 80s. Cowbell is coming back son!

Larry Wu - Let Me Show You. One of my favorite 80s funk jams, this is pure heat. The bass line on this is pretty ridiculous, layed on top of a spaced out beat.

Bar-Kays - Do It (Let Me See You Shake) (Romeo Erotic REMIX). This dude has been putting out crazy remixes of old 80s jams, and this is one of the better ones. Romeo Erotic picked a funky ass track to add some nice kicks and fluffed up the bass. Butter.

Wild Sugar - Bring It Here. You most likely alreayd know this jam, by way of the Beastie Boys. Lovely track that was flipped into a humongous party track back when MTV used to be dope.

BB&Q Band - Dreamer (Shep Pettibone Long Vocal Version). This has more of a programmed drums type feel, with a kind of clap snare which is so prevalent in today’s music. This shit is butter smooth though. The vocals come in and out and just the right times.

Érobique - Greven Love. Crazy smooth instrumental with very nice guitar playing. Its got everything from bongos, to piano, to some nice rhode action. Ride out down the beach with this blasting.

Kid - You Don’t Like My Music. Anotyehr minimal instrumental track with lots going on. This track is so damn smooth and makes you just want to chill somewhere on South Beach with soem baby back ribs in your hands.

Delegation - Heartache No 9. Here’s a smooth disco/R&B track.

Chocolate Milk - Sweet Heat. This is more on teh pure funk side of things, with some heavy bass owning this beat. Nice vocals are layed on top with some fresh synths coming in and out throughout.

TOBA - Moving up. This one is a bit on the cheesy side, but picks up nicely towards the middle. Very fresh beat with sweet changeups.
