Probably the biggest election in a really long time. Doesn’t matter who you vote for, just make sure you do it for the right reasons.
One of those reasons being, who’s the better b-boy.
Probably the biggest election in a really long time. Doesn’t matter who you vote for, just make sure you do it for the right reasons.
One of those reasons being, who’s the better b-boy.
Well, one at least. I’ve been informed that the homie DJ I-Dee won the Scribble Jam Music Video Contest with his single “The Right” Ft. Jean Grae & Wrekonize.
There are many interesting things about this video, but you will most likely get what the whole first half is about. They seemed to take Grand Theft Auto scenes and brought them to life, with Wrekonize even throwing some dude out a car and riding off in the whip. Then Jean Grae appears with some tap over her mouth, yet she continues to rap. Nice visuals throughout keep you glued in to the seat.
You can tell they had fun doing this. Check out a behind the scenes video made by Wrekonize himself.
ANd for those who aren’t that familiar with DJ I-Dee, here is another video he made a while back. This one has great visuals as well, but its more laid back showing I-Dee do his thing. The name of hte song is called “Eclectic Dreams”.
Congrats to everyone involved!
Kraak & Smaak vs Trevor - Squeeze Me (Trevor REMIX). This has been getting a lot of burn lately on commercial radio, and even some phone commercial I think. What’s crazy about it is how many genres this thing crosses over to. B-boys will be loving this, while at the same time, girls will will be getting down to the killer dance groove. Next level son!
Company B - Fascinated (DJ Craze REMIX). The legendary Craze takes a freestyle classic and puts his flavor on top of it. Keeping only the chorus vocals, Craze flips this beat into some smooth rave style banger. The thick synths will fill up any club speakers, amping up the energy on the dancefloor.
The LeftOuts - Fugitive. Here is a classic track by some of the Fresh Basil buddies. I think I only posted this song in form of a live performance by Wrekonize. He was performing it in a show at PS14. So here is the song for those that never got it. Classic.
D’Nell - Lace (Nicolay Vocal REMIX). Here’s a track by a group that fascinates me, D’Nell. They always got deep, soulful R&B grooves that are just my cup of tea. Another heavyweight in the neo-soul game, Nicolay, got together with them and remixed a track. Came out pretty nice.
Plugs - Imaginary Friend. This is an interesting track I got off another blog the other week. The beat is so on point, with its crispy clean drum track which changes for the chorus, and its smooth synths in the background. I showed this track to a female friend, and she said it was gay rock music. Word? I think she’s just hating.
Ce Ce Peniston vs Bart B More - Finally (Bart B More Remix). This dude has been remixing joints for a minute, always adding his dope electro flavor to the mix. This one is no different. Its always hard taking such a classic song, and making it dope again. But Bart B Bmore did exactly that, adding the classic piano loop in the mix. Damn!! Shit is so damn smooth.
Praveen & Benoit - Embers (Machinedrum REMIX). Lastly, here is some smooth vibes to chill out to. Machine Drum took a rather simple sample and flipped it on some entirely different shit, adding a whole bunch of electro layers and knocking ass drums. This is sample flipping at its best.
Crookers will be doing their thing at Heathrow, along with Miami all stars Jessica Who and Danny Daze. Killers vibes! $15.
Chromeo will be tearing up the dance floor at Heathrow with a DJ set on Halloween night. I’m guessing there will be a bunch of girls dressed in tight cat outfits. DON’T MISS!
Tonight we will be seeing a party that is of WMC caliber. Fool’s Gold returns to Miami to showcase many talented artists on their roster. Spinning tonight will be Jokers Of The Scene, Nacho Lovers, Treasure Fingers, and Nick Catchdubs. All of these dudes are able to hold their weight and do a solo show. But imagine the madness of all these back to back.
Damn! Best part about it is that it’s FREE! All you have to do is RSVP here. Catch me out there holding a fruity drink. HOLLA!
I gotta take soem time this week and pay some homage to a dude who is really doing it big right now. He goes by the name Flying Lotus. I’ve posted many of his traqcks before, but this time I want to show you soem of his videos.
Flying Lotus - Roberta Flack. This is a pretty basic video, but it has nice cinematography. It seems to follow two different couples as they chill and hang out. Seems fitting to the low key vibe that the song gives off.
Flying Lotus - Dance Floor Dale. NOw comes a crazy video that dropped my jaw at first site. This is pure madness, and cartoon genius. Its kind of dirty in a sense, where you get to see an ugly ass dude fuck an equally ugly woman. But everything is pretty much covered up with flashy cartoons and colors. So you get to see it, but don’t see it. Know what I mean? So watch at your own risk. I think its definitely worth it.
But again, this video below contains some explicit cartoon scenes, flashing lights and is FOR OVER 18’s ONLY.
Flying Lotus - Tea Leaf Dancers. Not sure who made this, but video was a submission to some contest that Lotus’ label was having to make a video. I thought this one came out real interesting. Its a combination of stop-motion and live action. Some of the locations that the main character was “walking” through was amazing, including that narrow road passing through the middle of the mountains.

One of R&B’s greatest talents has returned with a new album. Sir John Legend will be dropping his 3rd full length album “Evolver” next Tuesday. I was able to land a copy just the other day, so check out some of the songs below.
John Legend - It’s Over Ft. Kanye West. Aside from the single, this is a track that immediately stood out to me. Sounds like a Sa-Ra beat, but I’m not quite sure. As always, such a thick beat that sounds so smooth with both of them on it. There is even a random cowbell added in there for nice effect.
John Legend - No Other Love Ft. Estelle. As most of you know, John has a label now, and Estelle was his first artist. With this song, he continues to bring out that style that made Estelle so successful when she dropped her album last year. Its that smooth, soulful reggae type feeling that both of these do so well when they are together.
John Legend - Quickly Ft. Brandy. This is another track that I thought was pretty cool. John hasn’t collaborated with too many other R&B artists. So its nice to see him dabble in this song with Brandy.
Madlib The Beat Konducta - Yo Yo Affair Pt. 1 & 2 (With Frenza). Here’s some more of that thick R&B you know I love. This time, the sounds come from the incredible Madlib, with vocals by Frenza. This is so damn smooth!!!! Jesus.
Timbaland Ft. T-Pain - Talk. Not sure where this track popped up from, but it might be some new shit off Timbaland’s next album. Either way, the track is pretty damn dope, and both of them do their thing.
Freeway vs DJ Excel - Flipside (Excelarator’s Get Wild Bmore REMIX). Here is a dude I’ve been checking for a lot more lately. Not only are his mixes pure heat, his remixes are on point as well. This is one of my favorites he’s done so far. Takes a classic Freeway track, and gives it the uptempo Bmore feel.
Britney Spears - Womanizer (Tommie Sunshine REMIX). Theres literally been hundreds of remixes for this song. Some are good, most are crapola. This one is probably my favorite. Thick house electro for the club. This should have been the original beat.
The Shins - Phantom Limb. This is not a new song, but I got put on to these guys not too long ago. Been sleeping on them for a minute, so I wanted to post a nice track.
Some of you might have already seen this. If not, take a look. This is classic! Kinda makes me feel bad for laughing though cause its mostly true with some people.
The more you know….
Fresh Basil familia Rudi Goblen was commissioned for his one man show Insanity Isn’t again, this time by FIU. Another big move for the homie who keeps on doing big things representing Miami all over.
The show will take place two nights in a row this upcoming weekend, October 17 and 18 (Friday and Saturday). He will be performing alongside Teressa Barcelo as she does her own showcase. It will be $10 for students, and $15 for general admission.
I’ve mentioned this show the last time he performed it way back, and I must say you really have to see this. My words won’t do it justice though, so check pout this short promo video with the star himself talking about it.
Rudi Goblen will perform his acclaimed “Insanity Isn’t” show for an FIU live art series. This man does it all in his short set, acting, rapping, dancing, and blowing your mind. Don’t miss!
Q-Tip - Move. Classit shit here for the homie Q-Tip. Its a very basic video, but you can tell where he got the idea from… good ol MJ. The beat itself was inspired by MJ too.. well, the Jackson 5’s “Dancing Machine” to be exact.
Gonzales - Slow Down Ft. John Travolta. This was an interesting video for me because of the music behind it. They simply took a montage of the classic Saturday Night Fever movie, and stripped it of its essential Bee Gees soundtrack. Kinda gives it a completely different feel. Much more sensual. I can dig it.
T-Pain - Chopped N Skrewed Ft. Ludacris. Say what you want about the song and T-Pain, but this video is banging! Very nice effects throughout, keeping you glued in to see what else is going to happen. Its a big relief too, cause some of the last few videos with heavy special effects were garbage. I’m looking at you Khaled!
B.O.B.- I’ll Be In The Sky. This dude is really impressing me. He’s a southern rapper who doesn’t sound like a southern rapper. He’s taking big chances on his songs, like the one with the Amy Winehouse sample. I’m definitely going to check him out when he comes later this month.
Birdman & Lil Wayne - Pop Bottles (¡Me Gusta! Chandon Remix). Check some other southern rappers remixed to sound completely different from the original. This shit is hot! I love piano based hip-hop beats, and this is just nice and smooth. Feels real different.
T.I. - Whatever You Like (DiscoTech REMIX). Keeping the southern rapper theme, check out this remix by the homies Discotech. These guys are kings of electro club remixes right now. This one is killer.
Kid Sister - Family Reunion Ft. David Banner. Some more new shit from Kid Sis. Not sure who produced this (Diplo maybe?), but it came out fresh. Sounds real soulful, especially with Kid Sis dropping a killer hook. This is like some old school Salt’N'Pepa shit.
Damani Ft. Fatman Scoop - Take Something Home. This one takes the cake for surprise track of the week. I have no idea who this guy is, but this is hype as fuck. Fatman Scoop on th ehook? Word?? Bump this in the system.
Saigon Ft. Baby Cham & Kardinal Offishal - Chillyboom. This guy has been working on his album since 1992. For reals.. we’ve been hearing about it forever. Nice to finally be hearing some tracks that might be on the album, or maybe even singles. This one isn’t too bad. Did Just Blaze make this?
Jadakiss Ft. Jay-Z - Who Run This. This is a cute track. yea I said it.. Jay-Z seems to be co-signing Jada now. Its good to see rappers get a long. Jada does his thing as usual. “My back is killing me, I got New York on it”.
Statik Selektah Ft. M.O.P. & Jadakiss - For The City. Another track with Jada on it. Don’t hate. This guy is doing it right now. Sick beat, sick rhymes. Get on it son!
