Animation on the rise (VIDEO)
November 25th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Its not too often that you see an animated music video — let alone three animated videos in a short period of time. That’s what today is all about. Here are three brand new videos with pretty dope animation work done.

Kanye West - Heartless. This one is my favorite of the three. Shot by Hype Williams, this video came out picture perfect. Looks like he just shot the video regularly, then had some cartoonists add coloring over that. The movements and facial expressions are so spot on.

Gnarls Barkley - Mystery Man. This one seems to take more chances, with what seems like a combination of drawings and cardboard cutout animations. They even added some blurred shadows and the weird grainy effect seen on really old films. It came out clever as fuck. Gnarls videos are always on point though, so what else can you say.

Ill Bill - Uncle Howie. All loyal fans of Non-Phixion and Necro already know who Uncle Howie is. This is not even the fist video he’s even been in. This one is definitely better to watch than the one where he was actually seen shooting heroin into his arm. This cartoon is definitely dark, but it goes perfect with the song.

Music Mondays — Just Chilling

T-Pain & Chris Brown - Freeze (nukes remix). This song is currently all over the radio. But this uptempo version feels so much better than the original to me. The bass hits hard enough to keep you dancing, while the claps and changeups help keep the vibe up. Well done remix.

The Killers - Human (ocelot remix). This is another song that is all over hte place at the moment. This remix takes the best parts of the song and just kill sit with the added electro! Dope ass remix.

Mobb Deep - Shook (DJ Fashen REMIX). Not quite sure how to feel about this remix, but I’m sure some people will go nuts over this. DJ Fashen takes a classic hip-hop track and gives it an uptempo club remix. Some parts of this definitely hit hard, so This will surely get some good reactions.

3 Is A Crowd - Take It Back (rico tubbs remix). THis is a poretty slick bmore track with heavy electro synths coming in and out throughout. The Bmore track is kept subtle, as the heavy bass synths with the added vocals give the song its signature sound. Hype shit.

Cazals - Somebody Somebody (moulinex remix). I love disco type sounds, and this track delivers it nicely in an indie electro kind of way. Sounds like a much harder version of Chromeo.

Digikid 84 - Rock Steady In The Night. Like above, this one comes clean with teh disco type sounds. This one has much more percussion goiogn on in the background though.

Music Mondays — The God DJ
November 18th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

I wanted to take some time this week to salute one of the illest DJs in the world right now, the one and only A-Trak. Long before he became publicly known as Kanye’s tour DJ, A-Trak was winning DMC championships and other awards non-stop. Aside from perfect technical ability, this guys can rock a party like no other. It doesn’t matter what kind of party it is either. The best time to catch him is always during Winter Music Conference, where he often spins a couple times a day the whole week, playing everything from hipster indie parties, to grimey hip-hop events.

Anyways, this past week he was featured on BBC Radio’s Essential Mix series. It basically showcases the best DJs out there with a live mix in the club. A-Trak played for an hour and absolutely killed it! You can check the mix here for the next couple of days. DO it before it goes down!

He goes in and out of songs with such ease, making it too easy to just vibe and catch good feelings. Here are some of the songs in the mix tat I thought were dope. These are all A-Trak approved joints.

DJ Mehdi - Pocket Piano (Joakim ‘Berger’ Remix). Treezy drops this track towards the middle instead of the beginning, and just builds up the energy in the mix. Amazing.

DJ Mad - Put Your Drinks Up. Some peeps refer to this as the new hot Guido banger. I’m thinking you can rock this anywhere.

Voodoo Chilli - Get On Down (Original_Mix). I slept on this joint for a while, but damn this shit is so sick! Disco house at its finest.

DJ Mujava - Township Funk. I’m really feeling the vibe this track brings out.

Jokers Of The Scene - Baggy Bottom Boys. This song is so cinematic with its changeups.

Fake Blood - Blood Splashing. As they always do, this Fake Blood track just has amazing energy.

Music Mondays — Big quarter

Been a hectic week, and I ended being a coupel days late with this. So lets get on with it!

Kanye West - Streetlights. One of the biggest releases of the year is coming up real soon, and it looks like Kanye can’t wait himself. He keeps leaking lots of songs off his shit, this being one of the more interesting ones I think.

Gnarls Barkley - Mystery Man. Another huge release coming up is the third Gnarls album. Here is their first single, which they also made a video for. Sounds like the usual Gnarls — which means groundbreaking shit!

AC/DC - Thunderstruck (Crookers Remix). Here is a remix to a classic AC/DC song done by some fellas you should already know, Crookers. This shit bumps heavy jut like all their other jams.

Busta Rhymes - Dont Touch Me (Illo Disco Drums REMIX). Here is another remix I just came across for Busta’s dope summer jam. This one is actually my favorite version right now. It has minimal changes, but just enough to give it more flavor.

Ron Browz vs Busta Rhymes - Pop Champagne (DJ Rob Dinero REMIX). Here is a Busta Rhymes inspired track. Rob took one of the biggest songs out right now, and flipped it to one of Busta’s old tracks. Its gives the track a really different feel, and a lot more energy. I like.

T.I. - Whatever You Like (DJ Scooter Remix). Here’s another remix of a big song out right now. Scooter takes this slow jam and makes it an uptempo dancefloor jam.

Mike Posner & The Brain Trust - Cooler Than Me Ft. Big Sean. This is one of my favorite tracks out right now. So damn smooth and perfect on the gogo tip. This sounds like a track that Gnarls Barkley should have made for their last album.

Evil Nine - They Live! (Trevor Loveys REMIX). Ending it off is a sweet indie electro track that is thick enough to put in a McDonald’s vanilla shake cup.

ben & jerry ice cream

Once again, Ben & Jerry’s comes through with the goodness. They are known for having their free cone days to celebrate their anniversaries. But I guess they thought today was another special day to celebrate.

They will be giving out free cones from 5 PM - 8 PM. Sweet!!! A good way to end a day of voting. However, I got a feeling the lines here be longer than those at the polling places. Not everyone cares about voting, which is a shame… But everyone loves ice cream! True story.

So catch me out at the Ben & Jerry’s in Coral Gables. Click here for directions fool!

Introducing Hocus Pocus (VIDEO)
November 4th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

I just got put onto this hip-hop group from France called Hocus Pocus. The homie DJ Sharpsound sent me a couple of their videos, and I was very impressed.

I don’t speak French at all, but I can appreciate good tunes, and I know quality music when I hear it. They definitely have quality beats, and it seems like they are a positive type of hip-hop group. No thuggery in these videos. Just smooth beats and nice visuals. Someone let me know what they are saying!

Mr tout le monde. Butter beat with nice tambourines and acoustic guitar just vibing throughout. The sampled chorus and cuts add much flavor as well. Concept of the video is dope as well. These guys are on point!

Smile Ft. Omar. Very smooth with a nice english chorus.

Hip Hop? Ft. The Procussions. This song features a group from the states, which I’ve blogged about before. This one has a nice piano beat, with thicker drums than the previous two songs. And more english too! Dope shit.

Music Mondays — Genie is back
November 3rd, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Christina Aguilera - Keeps Gettin Better. The sexy blond is back from a long break after releasing a pretty solid album with the help from DJ Premier and others. For a first single (I think), this is pretty solid. Seems like the uptempo beat trend is still going strong. This is a proper club track.

Lil Wil - Bust It Open Ft. Murphy Lee. Here is a crunk track that caught my attention last week. This shit drops like a motherfucker. The thickness of the bass, and the subtle whistle in the background make this a nice trunk rattler.

Terry Poison - 24 Hours (The Aston Shuffle A-Bomb Remix). Most likely a pretty old song, but I just came across it off a mixtape. Thick synths and heavy bass, with smooth vocals. Just my cup of tea.

Diplo - Blow Your Head (DJ Eli Remix). Not much to explain here. You already know DJ Eli always comes through with the quality remixes. This is top notch as always.

Earth, Wind & Fire vs Hey Champ DJs - Let Your Feelings Show (REMIX). Here is a classy remix of an old 80s jam. The remix offers much more than the original with thicker drums and cleaner bass.

Sharkslayer - Bad Ding. Here’s some “blawg hauz” with a nice reggae touch to it. The synths go in and out, and always come back strong with strong kicks. Its cool how they used some vocals here and there but didn’t over do it. I like where this is going.

Tuff Crew - My part of Town. Jesus,. thsi song is so sick!!! I haven’t been able to get enough of it lately every since I heard DJ Excel drop it in his live set. I’ve had this song for a while, but just hearing how Excel drops it in the primetime of his set, taking the energy to a whole other level is incredible. The bass kick and chopped up drums on this are so hype! Killing it!
