Low key loungin’ (VIDEO)
December 9th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Twiggy Frostbite - Heroes. Posted this song last week, and now here’s the video. They tried to use the ever-lasting symbolism of robots bonding with humans or little kids. Although not the best version ever, this video still out classy.

The New Sins - Feelings Have Changed. Here’s a nce video for a pretty chill song. I like the way they change uop the colors and throw in silhouettes in there every now and then.

Portishead - Magic Doors. What else can you expect from a group with weird music but a weird video to match. There seems to be too much going on at some points, but overall, I like this video. Keeps you interested.

Music Mondays — Common’s new transformation
December 9th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Common is finally back with some new shit. You’ve probably already heard some of his new jams I posted, including the electro single “Universal Mind Control”. As always, Common tries to come with a new style, and I think it came out pretty fresh. Some of the songs are whatever, but others are really refreshing. Check out what I mean.

Common - Make My Day Ft. Cee-Lo. Featuring one of the better innovators out there right now, this song is just so damn smooth and relaxing. I can;t remember Common ever being on a beat like this for a really long time.

Common - What A World Ft. Chester French. Just like the song before, this beat allows Common to show a different side. Chester French is a dope ass dude I heard about from a DJ Manuvers mixtape. He adds dope flavor to this track, and gives it a nice indie feel.

Kelis - Millionaire Ft. Andre 3000. This one kind of has the same feel as the Common tracks, so I thought I’d share. Andre kill it as usual, with the best half-rap/half-singing type steez out there. This actually came out a few years back too. You know Andree be staying ahead of everyone.

Jokers Of The Scene - Y’all Know The Name. I was trying to find this song for so long! Pretty dope upbeat electro remix of a standard hip-hop classic. The breakdown in the middle is awesome, as they throw in the original for effect, and kick it right back up to primetime dance mode.

Dances With White Girls - Everyones Got To Make A Living. Another remix of a classic track, this time the classic being a b-boy dancefloor killer. This dude is not new to the scene, but I haven’t heard many remixes from him. I’m curious to hear some more after hearing this banger.

Avenue D - Do I Look Like a Slut. This is an old ass song that I only just got right now. These girls were originally from Miami, but now perform out of Brooklyn I believe. This is there best track to date. Basically just a dirty booty bass song that has that dope female flavor.

DJ Sega - Be. The original track to this was one of the biggest songs last year. However, the Bmore champ brought it back and flipped it very nice. Sort of has the same feel, but of course, the organs get chopped up Bmore style, and the bass knocks hard.

Maceo & All The King’s Men - I Remember Mr. Banks. This song hit me at just the right moment last week. Stumbled upon it online somewhere, and I just zoned out for a while. You’re not human if you’re not feeling this smooth shit.

MADLIB invades Art Basel
December 2nd, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

YES YES Y’ALL!!!! I’m sure you already heard by now. If you didn’t know, the infamous Madlib will be tearing down the house this Thursday at Blacksheep Bar. Best of all, its FREE!

Brought to you by Public Wizard, MURK’d Miami, OkayPlayer, and Stones Throw themselves, this show will be free for RSVP guests. Set in one of South Beach’s newest revamped venues, this show fits right into the Art Basel week with live paintings going on throughout the show. Parable will be performing, as well as Rashaan.

Madlib will be throwing down one of his usual eclectic DJ sets, which I’m sure will include a bunch of exclusive and unreleased remixes by the genius himself. He always kills it when he comes down during WMC… But its dope to finally see him on another occasion.

Here are a couple of my favorite Madlib related videos. The first is “Slim’s Return” off of the special jazz/instrumentaql record he made using Blue Notes’ master recordings. The second one is of course the infamous cartoon video for Madvillian’s “All Caps”.

Music Mondays — Art Basel Is Upon Us
December 2nd, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

The world famous Art Basel extravaganza is going on again this week. Its a week where you can find yourself mingling with people from all over the world. From socialites to art collectors, to the usual drunk dudes trying to pick up girls.

So I figured what better way to celebrate this magnificent time with pleasant chillaxing tunes. Check these smooth jams out.

Jay-Z - Brooklyn Go Hard. Kanye’s new monster beat that sample’s one of Santogold’s songs. Just like the now classic jam which sampled M.I.A. did, this beat is just pure heat while Jay drops some heavy rhymes.

Chae Hawk - Pussy Poppin. This dude makes some very thick, Dilla-esque type beats. This one comes off a bit more dirty south like, but knocks nonetheless. The rapping is pretty nice too, with a nice chorus.

Phil Collins - I’m Not Moving (Idjut Boys Edit). Here is a sweet edit to a classic Phil Collins jam. I love piano joints, and this one just feels so damn nice.

The Bloody Beetroots - Yeah Boy. These guys are known to pump out some heavy electro club tracks. This one is a lot more on the chill side though, with dope synths riding throughout, and a sweet drumtrack that adds a lot of flavor.

Twiggy Frostbite - Heroes. I actually caught this song while watching some random video on myspace. Video turned out to be a pretty fresh animated cartoon about robots, but the song is definitely better. It has a Zero 7 type vibe, which I’m always in the mood for.

Santogold - I’m A Lady (Diplo REMIX Ft. Amanda Blank). Here is a classy remix to the most famous hip-hop love song ever, Uncle L’s “I Need Love”. This song sounds so cinematic with the beat sampling Santogold, while she drops vocals of her own adding more flavor.

Mr. Hudson & The Library - Ask The DJ (Sinden & Count Of Monte Cristal Remix). This group is signed to Kanye’s GOOD Music imprint. Needless to say, they got good music. Here is an old jam tat I recently stumbled upon, which was remixed by some electro master’s.

Vampire Weekend - Everywhere (Fleetwood Mac Cover). Lastly, a song by a band I haven’t been paying much attention to. Here they cover a Fleetwood Mac song though, and its comes out rather incredible to me. Good vibes all throughout.
