West coast funk and soul boogie specialist Dam-Funk graced Miami a few weeks back with a live DJ set at Purdy. Here’s a taste for those that missed.
What a night it was. DJ Manuvers held down the fort for a while before Dam-Funk came on and gave the crowd some shit they rarely get to hear. Nobody was recording, so I had to find a live mix to give you guys a taste if you missed it.
Here is Dam-Funk spinning at a party in Cali called Do-Over, on May 31. He played a lot of the same stuff, and had the same kind of vibe. Lots of mic talking and singing. So dope!

Also, the homie DJ Sire Esq was able to catch up with Dam-Funk before he came down to Miami. He put up the interview on his blog. He comes off as a real elegant dude, and has lots of experience in the game.
I like his view on why he shouts out the names of tracks when he DJs: “Music is about sharing. DJs are about sharing music, not about an ego trip that this is my track and nobody else is going to have it. I’m doing a better service for people to find that artist and go search out that record. Then I go back to making my original music once the DJ gig is over.” Real cool dude!
