So..yesterday Kanye West announced on his blog very sparse details about his Glow in the Dark tour. But everyone I know, myself included, is very excited about the line-up. No dates or cities or any other info has been revealed yet..but if it doesn’t hit Miami…I’m going to be traveling for sure.

On Wednesday, Nikon presented their 2007 Four-to-the-Floor tour at Opium Garden and Vega, Manuvers and I were lucky enough to attend the event. They linked up with Spring LLC and kicked off a five city tour starting in September. They made stops at major cities Chicago, NYC, San Fran, LA and capped everything off is MIA. (Saving the best for last) The mission statement of the tour is to “shift the artistry and musicianship back to the forefront of dance music” and is used as a “platform to launch the next generation of DJs/Producers as the new stars of dance music.”

As we walked in, we were introduced to our new Nikon Coolpix S51c digital cameras with 8.1 megapixels and new wifi features. DJ K-Razor from the Scratch Academy was out there teaching people how to “DJ” and they recorded the sessions on a CD you could take home. (holla at Vega & Manuvers for their exclusive shit..haha) We also were treated to an open bar & free food (much appreciated!) Nikon had a showcase of their latest cameras and a rep to answer any and all questions.

We also had the chance to witness this dope ass jazz/r&b violinist, Karen Briggs. Seriously, she was killin it.

Check out some pics I took while there. Video will be up shortly!

Poetry lovers from all over the tri-county area congregate inside Yuca Lounge on Lincoln Road every single Wednesday. like religiously.

Many people are unaware but the Bohemia Room has been providing a stage and a mic for spoken word & recording artists for years. In fact, i got my first peek at Janelle Monae when she performed there and I must agree with Anonyms-she ripped it. So you should def check her out.

Every week, hosts Ingrid B and Alex T. Proctor do it up big by giving exposure and support to a scene that most South Floridians only see on HBO Def Poetry. The BR fam includes Miami Masters Will da Real One, Asia, Poetic Vibes, & Anomaly and house poets Evita, Gookie (haha me, of course, suckahs!), Angelique, Da Youngsta, Nytaina, Truth, Godus, Vernon, Analogy, Honey Bee & Barbara Howard. (poet listing taken directly from their myspace page..so don’t get mad at me if you ain’t mentioned! i know for a fact there more regular poets but there’s wayyy too many to name!)

Here’s a tiny taste of the talent that performs at the Bohemia Room:

Every week, there is a different theme–monthly slams, erotic night, “it’s a man’s world”..so sign up to the email list and add them on myspace so you know what’s going down.

You can also stop by Workmens on Washington & Espanola to get complimentary admission passes..good before 8:30 so get there early..doors open at 8pm, poetry starts at 9:30 but I guarantee you by 9:15..you’ll be struggling to find a place to sit. So..be smart. either get there early (and for freeeee) or contact Ingrid for table reservations! Also check out Ingrid’s blog to find out additional events and news on thangs you should know about!

seriously, hot as fuck, in every sense. It rains alllll week and that day, the Hip Hop Gods blessed us with dope performances & sunshine (too much though…for reals. everyone was stank & wet 5 minutes after arriving). So yea, I got hooked up with VIP tickets. yays. but unfortunately, the security people working the VIP area in front of the stage were dumb asses and didn’t know how to do their job. So for the first 2 hours i was there, i was on the phone and texting my contacts to get my VIP thing straightened out. Everything eventually worked out and i got access to that exclusive area.

..Saw Jedi Mind Tricks perform. They were dope..definitely rocked it. After them, Immortal Technique came on. His set was pretty entertaining b/c he was just talkin a lot of shit. After Immortal Tech, Pharoahe Monch performed. His set had a lot of energy. Had a live band and 2 chicks that could sang..near the end of his set, one of his singer’s boob popped out. I dunno if anyone else caught that. but yea. it happened. no pic tho. =/ haha and there was this crazy guy off to the side that was dancing his ass off. I was watching him, really entertained. Then i look past him and i see a couple of Miami Cops cracking the fuck up. And luckily, someone video taped him and posted it on youtube. awesome.
Click here to view the embedded video.

Then Talib came up, rocked shit like usual..Mos Def joins him on stage…insanity.then Common pops up outta no where! Everyone went crazy…Mos’s set seemed to drag on a lil bit but i think he was just trying to make up for David Banner & UGK not being there. Once Mos’s marathon set ended, i went over to the VIP area and said hi to a few people and happened to be lucky enough to get there at the right time and chill with the right person. People were standing in line for the Wu Tang meet & greet..and I’m with my girl, Roz & her friends. And we scheme to get close to the front…we bartered with some guys to let us get in front of them in exchange for an insane amount of drink tickets. Yes, it worked. My Rock the Bells experience just got more dope because a group of guys who have an affinity for alcohol….so met em, snapped flix..then caught the last part of Nas’s set. Me & my people were right in the front middle of the stage and right after Nas got off, these 2 chicks standing in front of me decided to leave so me & my girl swooped in. So for Wu’s performance, we were right there. It was us, the fence, then the moat of trash and nasty water, then the stage. I’m mad tiny so it was perfect for me. no big guys blocking my view. no stank armpits all in my face. no risk of getting a black eye from the vigorous arm movements from the guy next to me. And i got some fresh pics out of it too. I can’t even capture the essence of the performance with words because it was just pure madness. All i can say, if you haven’t seen them before, you seriously need to put that on your “To Do” list.

Miami definitely needs shows and events like this more often. Fuck the South Beach scene. Fuck the techno shit. The real hip hop scene in Miami is far from dead. We just need to step up and support. And maybe next year, they’ll come back…..and bring Doom with ‘em.
