Music Mondays — Neo-Soul on the come up
July 1st, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Its been a good week for R&B. The Detroit soul master Dwele dropped his latest album, and it is straight fire! He took it back to what his first album sounded like. Smoother beats, and much more J Dilla inspired type beats. It is going to take me some time to digest the whole album, but here are a couple tracks that stood out at the moment.

The first featuring none of the than Slum Village, one of my favorite hip-hop groups. Straight butter song with nice lyrics. They always seem to blend well together, ever since “Tainted” came out. The second track is another smooth song, with nice rhode action throughout. This is classic Dwele, talking about feel good shit over a feel good beat.

Dwele - Brandi Ft. Slum Village.
Dwele - Free As A Bird.

Keeping it on the neo-soul tip, I present to you the homie Eric Lau. Coming out of London, this producer has uncanny abilities and making smooth ass R&B beats. Reminiscent of the big dude J Dilla, this guys bass lines and drum samples are perfect. A true genius is developing, and I got a couple of songs off his album.

Eric Lau - Confession Lounge Ft. Rahel. This song features a singer by the name of Rahel. Very sexy.

Eric Lau - Hope. Not sure who sings on this one, but the beat is mesmerizing. Feel good shit.

Georgia Anne Muldrow -Wrong Way. Here is an older song by one of Stone Throws finest ladies. Not only does she have a great voice, she produced all the beats on her album. This one is the best one by far. So thick with nicely layered drums.

Another artist that has caught my attention recently is Sam Sparro. He’s a funny ass white dude who makes funky ass electro. It ranges from faster dance type songs, to slower, funky R&B songs. The two following songs are the latter. Dope lyrics, and tight ass beats, this guy is delivering it right now.

Sam Sparro - Cottonmouth. This track is for all the potheads out there. You already know.

Sam Sparro - Clingwrap. And this one is for all the groupies that can’t give the homie space.

Lil Wayne - Shoot Me Down Ft. D. Smith. To top tings off, here is one of my favorites tracks off the Weezy album. Simply amazing. Wayne has some great range on his album, and this is something I never expected him to make. The beat is so eery, and the vocal supplied by D Smith are amazing.

Music Mondays — John & Andre finally team up
June 24th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

john legend

John Legend - Green Light Ft. Andre 3000. The king of R&B right now is returning with a new album soon. This is the first song to leak, and it is straight up fire! Andre 3000 drops a great verse as always, and John just does his thing well. There’s no piano playing on this one, which is always weird to hear John without. But still dope nonetheless.

Solange - I Decided. Here is another R&B banger from an artist I know nothing about. After finding out a bit, I can tell you that Solange is a pretty lady from Houston< Texas that makes fresh neo-soul music. She's got other dope songs including one featuring Lil Wayne. I’m definitely going to start checking out for her.

The Roots - Birthday Girl Ft. Fall Out Boy. Keeping the smooth tip going, here is a song that didn’t make The Roots last album. It was actually their first single, but didn’t end up making the album cause it was too “pop-ish”. Shit is really fresh though, and the video is superb. I posted it up before, so check it out if you haven’t. It has one of the cutest porn chics in the video, playing along to the lyrics of the song.

Danny Fernanded - Curious Ft. Juelz Santana. This is another R&B banger that is currently topping the charts right now. Seems like this guy came out of nowhere, and Juelz helped him with this track. The beat is smooth, and danceable as well. Lovely track.

T-Pain - Church (Bimbo Jones REMIX). I was on vacation this weekend in the Keys, and while in the car I heard the sample used for this song. Brought me back to how dope this remix was. Crazy bassline and heavy hitting guitar work done throughout the instrumental. They mixed it with one of T-Pain’s less known singles and created a dope club song.

Tittsworth - Broke Ass Nigga (DJ Assault Remix). The homie Tittsworth finally is releasing a vinyl single with a bunch of hits that have been leaking on the internet forever. This was one of those tracks. However, it got remixed by another heavyweight in the game, DJ Assault. Doesn’t sound like the original at all, and is actually pretty dope on its own.

Santogold - Creator (Scottie B REMIX). Another monster in the Bmore scene is the homie Scottie B. This guy has been doing it forever, and continues to frequently drop new remixes. This one is real basic, with some nice changeups for the chorus. Hot shit.

Vanilla Ice - Ninja Rap. Nothing to explain about this track. Just pure fire. If you don’t know this, where the fuck did you grow up?? Pay attention kiddies.

Music Mondays — 9th Wonder still wondering
June 16th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

buckshot

It took me a while to finally listen to 9th Wonder’s second album with Buckshot. But I’m glad I did. 9th is still coming with that heat on the beats, and Buckshot drops his usual hard rhymes. These are two of the dopest tracks off the album in my opinion.

The first song opens off the album nice! Crazy smooth beat with a nice vocal sample. 9th flipped this one crazy. The second song is another nice sample flip, more on the smooth neo-soul tip. Carlitta Durand adds some nice flavor to the track, and the track just has a sexy ass feel.

9th Wonder & Buckshot - Ready (Brand New Day).
9th Wonder & Buckshot - Go All Out Ft. Carlitta Durand.

Guilty Simpson - Footwork (Madlib Remix). Here is soem more grimey ass hip-hop for your ass. Guilty is still that dude. This guy’s swagger is incredible, and his rhyming patterns are dope. Madlib grabbed one of his latest tracks and gave it his own spin. Sick!

Clipse - Show You How To Hustle. This looks like a new track from the Virginia boys. Sounds like classic Clipse to me, mad shit talking and talking about ‘cane. You know you love it.

Paper Route Gangstaz - Grind Baby. The PRG’z have been putting out a few songs here and there, very sporadically. I’m not sure where they are from, or who they are affiliated with, but they are making some fresh ass music. Its like crunk music with that soul feeling. Say word? Exactly. Listen up, shit is dope.

Lloyd Ft. Lil Wayne - Girls Around The World (Ross Hogg Remix). I posted the original a couple weeks back, but this remix is pretty nice as well. The original is untouchable, but this remix gives it a whole new feel. I’m sure it will come in handy to some DJs out there.

Kenna & Lupe Fiasco - Say Goodbye T Love (Remix). This is a pretty old song, but it recently got remixed. Lupe Fiasco jumped on the track and dropped a couple verses. Not much changed, so if you liked the original, you’ll probably like this one too.

DJ Technics - What Not What. Lastly, the Bmore song of the week. Straight enegry pumping out of this fucking song. Lil Jon is all over it with his usual rants about nothing, making the hype beat even more exciting. Dance to this shit fuckers.

Music Mondays — Paid Dues was a disappointment!
June 9th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

This week’s Music Mondays will be a lil heavy on the street rap tip. Got some good stuff recently and just had to share. Plus, I heard a lot of people were disappointed with the “Paid Dues” show this weekend. So hopefully this helps!

Yung LA Ft. Young Dro & T.I. - Aint I Remix. Heard this on the radio the other day, and i thought it was crazy! Crunk tracks are really hit or miss with me. And most the time, its just some real hype shit with lyrics making no sense. This shit is smooth though, but still hard as fuck. So dope.

NYGz Ft. Royce 5′9, Lady of Rage & Freddie Foxxx - Ya Dayz R Numbered Remix. This is that gutter New York shit at its best. Premier coming with the beat and scratch hook, and mad people coming with the flows. Dope shit overall, with Freddie Foxxx taking the cake.

Keak Da Sneak Ft. Prodigy - That Go Remix. I don’t know what it is about being in trouble or going to jail, but it seems thats when people really start to step it up (see R. Kelly). Prodigy has been putting out heat lately, and this verse is straight butter! Crazy beat and solid verses. This shit is grimey.

Bun B Ft. Chino XL & Killer Mike - Some Hoes. This song caught my eye, cause what the fuck is Bun B doing with Chino XL? Made me chuckle for real. The song came out pretty cool though. Nice verses, and a proper beat.

J Dilla Ft. Bilal - Remember. I never heard this track, and I’m not sure where it came from. But its some real smooth Jay Dee shit as always. It features Bilal dropping some nice vocals, and is produced by none other than Pete Rock. Cool to see two legends working together.

Janelle Monae - Violet Stars Happy Hunting. If you haven’t heard about this girl get, then go find out! This new track is a delicious, upbeat track with great vocals.

Ryan Leslie Ft. Cassie & Fabolous - Addiction Remix. Anything this guy touches is golden. One of the best R&B dudes in teh game right now, and this track proves it. Ryan features Cassie & Fabolous on this song, and they all do their part to make this song flow nice.

Matt Pokora Ft. Ryan Leslie - No Me Without You. Here is another track Ryan was involved with. Nice production, and great vocals again.

Music Mondays — Weezy’s shit leaked
June 2nd, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Lil Wayne Ft. Jay-Z - Mr. Carter. This is a monumental leak off Weezy’s new album. This track features none other than Jay-Z. This is their second song together, and it is fire! Beat is nice, and both drop some crazy verses.

Red Eyez Ft. Birdman & Lil Wayne - Bling Blaw. This is an unrelated track, but features the boy Weezy, as well as Birdman. The beat on this is crazy to me. Real thick with some nice organs. The chorus is dope too, which uses a sample from Ludacris. Overall, this is a killer “pop rap” song.

Rza Ft. Monk & Thea - Drama. I’m a sucker for many things, and hip-hop beats with heavy piano playing is one of them. RZA comes correct on this song, making a soothing beat that allows Thea to eloquently lay down some nice vocals. Lyrics are dope as well.

Nelly Ft. Akon - Body On Me. Here is another piano heavy beat. More on the poppish side, with Akon doing his thing as usual. But still every dope. You can’t hate Nelly for still being around!

Jamie Lidell - Little Bit Of Feel Good (Dorian Concept Remix). I’ve posted up soem of Jamie’s stuff before. And as always, he never disappoints. This one is interesting because it is a remix. A pretty fresh remix. The beat has a smooth electronic feel to it, accompanying Jamie’s voice well.

CL Smooth Ft. Skyzoo - Perfect Timing. It seems like CL Smooth was never able to get his shit together since breaking up with Pete Rock. A lot of his stuff is hit or miss. This one is pretty nice. The beat is smooth, and the chorus fits well. Nice track.

Camp Lo - Lumdi. This is an interesting hip-hop group cause they have been around for so long, and have constantly kept changing to stay current. This song is dope cause of its weirdly sampled vocal beat. This was real big a few years back when Kanye & Just Blaze were running the production game. They still are, but not with these types of beats. Shit is dope.

Lupe Fiasco - Superstar (acoustic version). Not only am I a sucker for piano beats, but also acoustic versions of songs. Its hard to find acoustic hip-hop songs, so this one is surprising. Came out real dope!

Music Mondays — That 80s Sound
May 26th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

kidz in the hall picture

Kidz In The Hall Ft. El-P - Drivin Down The Block Remix. Here is a sound that has been making a big comeback recently with the help of The Cool Kids. However, this track was done by Kidz In The Hall, and is pretty damn fresh. The beat is bass heavy, and just bumps like a motherfucker. El-P jumps on the remix and drops a killer verse. Ill shit.

Shwayze - Buzzin Ft. Wale (DJ Skeet Skeeet REMIX). This is a song that has been blowing the fuck up lately. Its some real smooth pop/hip-hop type of shit that bodes well with the ladies. Its made by this group out of Malibu. In this remix though, the groups DJ, Skeet Skeet, put together a nice remix featuring rising star Wale. Its not as smooth and catchy as the original, but its still pretty dope.

T.I. - No Matter What. Unlike when R. Kelly gets in trouble, T.I.’s activity level has decreased a bit. I haven’t heard much stuff from him lately, but this latest track is amazing. Over a slow, smooth beat, T.I. drops some incredible verses laying out what he’s about to go through, but saying that he’s still gonna be around. (I kinda like it when rappers drop all the big headed bullshit, and just talk some real shit.

Pharoahe Monch - Broken Heart. Not sure where this came from, but I love it. Pharoahe’s last album was incredible, and he keeps coming with that raw shit. On this song he paints a grim picture of losing love over a smooth beat with a nice sampled chorus.

Lloyd Ft. Lil Wayne - Girls Around The World. This is some sweet pop R&B for you. Lloyd is a pretty sweet artist that has dropped a lot of nice singles, and here he comes with another one. The beat uses a classic drum sample, and flows smoothly throughout. You can also hear a bit of Slick Rick throughout as his vocal sample is punched in here and there. Also, Lil’ Wayne does his thing as usual.

Nu Shooz vs T La Rock - Its Your Shooz (DJ Spider Remix). The infamous DJ Spider made this joint a couple years back, but it is such a classic that I had to put it up. He puts together two classic party tracks, and makes a new one! This features the vocals from T La Rock’s “It’s Yours”, and one of my favorite beats ever, Nu Shooz’s “I Can’t Wait”. It matches well, and is sure to rock any type of party.

Umar Bin Hassan Ft. Styles P- Free. Here is another smooth ass song (You know how I love them!!). The beat is real thick with some nice synths adding to the smooth rhodes. It is an interesting track because it is mostly spoken word. I’m not too big on these type of songs, but this one is nice. The beat makes up for it, and the sweet vocal chorus is butter.

KW Griff - Respect. Not much to explain here. This is just a classic Bmore track which sample the pop classic “Respect” by Aretha Franklin. Dope!

Music Mondays — Cool Kids dropping Tomorrow!
May 19th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

cool kids picture

Cool Kids - Stove Top Oven Fresh Baked Goods. I’ve been following these dudes for a while, and they area finally dropping an album this week. Well, more like a half album / EP. But still, its been long overdue. This track is not going to be on the EP as far as I know, but it is pretty dope. Not as strong as their other songs, but if you are digging that Cool Kids sound, then this will be right up your alley.

Immortal Technique- The Payback Ft. Diabolic & Ras Kass. The big homie Technique is finally putting out an album real soon. Its been much anticipated over the years. He jumps on this track with Diabolic and Ras Kass. All three of them drop solid verses, with Immortal Technique closing it off nice.

Major James & Baby Bash - Saturday. Major James is a crew out of California who is down with the likes of Nate Dogg, and the Dogg Pound. On this track, they sing over a classic hip-hop sample that has been used many times before. They do a good job at making it their own though, and give it some nice West Coast flavor. I’m check for more of their stuff.

Al Green - Stay With Me Ft. John Legend. As some of you might know, the legendary Questlove was working on Al Green’s new album. I believe he handled most of the production, and just gave Al Green that old sound he needed. This is one of the joitns on the album featuring John Legend. So dope.

One Chance - Having A Ball. I’m not quite sure who these guys are, but it seems like its a group of four dudes out of Chicago. All I know is that this track is pretty sweet. The beat is nice, and the vocals come off nice as well.

Play-N-Skills - One Mo Gin Ft. , Lil Jon, Krayzie Bone & Bun B. This is the pop cheese track of the week… and I think its sick!!! I’m sure you’ll recognize he sample. Lil Jon, or whoever made the beat, basically slowed it down and crunked it the fuck up! This is a real nice crunk track, and different from all the othe rhsit out now. Get up on it!

Portishead - Machine Gun. I don’t think I ever put up any Portishead tracks off their latest album. So here it goes… This was my favorite song off the album. Some of my readers were lucky enough to see them perform at Coachella. Word!

Adele - Hometown Glory (Night Facilities Remix). I posted this track a while back when her album came out. Was one of my favorite tracks off the album. Just this week though I came across this remix made by Night Facilities. I think it came out mad fresh, giving it a whole new feel. The beat he added is just as smooth as the original piano playing, and Adele’s lovely voice still carries the song well. Let me know what you think.

Music Mondays — new MAYDAY suckasss!
May 12th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

MAYDAY - Miles To Go. Fresh Basil familia and Miami hometown heroes, MAYDAY, have just released their newest track. And with the new track comes an announcement…. Wrekonize has officially joined the group! Not much of a surprise, but still good news. Wrek has been messing with Bernbiz and Plex on the music tip since the dawn of time. So this was a natural move. The new sound is fantastic, and this vibe is sure to get them a lot of new fans.

Madonna - Beat Goes On Ft. Kanye West. This virgin might be 137 years old, but she’s still pumping out some quality music. This track off her new album might be the next single, so look out for it. I think its one of the strongest tracks on the album, with a strong beat and a nice melody thats dope for the dancefloor. Kanye delivers a nice verse towards the end as well.

Ne-Yo - Lets Just Be. Here is a very dope pop R&B track with a thick ass beat. Ne-Yo is on top of the R&B game right now, and he definitely knows how to pick beats. The other single he has out right now is straight fire. This one is a much different look, with a nice and slow tempo and sexy vocals. Feeling it!

Jazmine Sullivan - Need You Bad Ft. Missy Elliot. I think you peeps already know how i feel about Estelle! So check out this song I came across this week… Butter! I don’t know who Jazmine Sullivan is, but this song is amazing. Just like Estelle often does , Jazmine weaves some reggae influence into her R&B, and just makes a beautifully thick and soulful track. So essential.

RZA - U Can’t Stop Me Now. This is an interesting track because so many rapper shave already used this sample, such as Ill Bill and MF DOOM. So to hear someone use it again in a different way is dope. This one is more laid back than the other, but still very gutter.

Joell Ortiz - Here’s The Next Ft. Novel. This dude has appeared many times on my site, and here he is again with a new nostalgic rap song. I like the way this guy says stories, and just the way he describes situations. Here he does both, talking about how he’s still struggling, even though he got a record deal from Dr. Dre. I’m not even sure if thats still going on though, cause he got dropped form Interscope not too long ago.

Justice - DVNO. This has got to be like the 5th single that Justice has released off their last album. I guess tis just that strong of an album, or they are too busy to work on new shit with all their touring. The song is pretty fresh, with a solid beat that isn’t too hardcore for the regular listeners. Their other current single though has a crazy video which is reminiscent of the old Clockwork Orange type steez.

Midfield General - Disco Sirens. Here is another indie electro banger. The song starts off real strong with sirens and builds into a nice, bass heavy beat.

Music Mondays — Biggest Concert week of the year!
May 5th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

radiohead picture

Thats right.. This is the biggest concert week of the year. Radiohead tonight, and Kanye tomorrow night. Insane. So those with enough money in the bank will be enjoying two great performances back to back. For the rest of the people who can’t make it out, here are some tracks to enjoy while you’re at home sobbing. Get at me!

Young Jeezy & Kanye West - Put On. This brand new track features an incredible verse by Kanye! I mean damn, shit is hot! Some people might not like it, cause Kanye gets his T-Pain on with the vocal effects. Either way, its incredible to me for some reason. He even mentions his recent breakup with his fiance. Real shit.

Radiohead - Bodysnatchers (Live From The Basement). Heres a little sample of what to expect tonight. Radiohead recently recorded a live performance called The Basement for VH1. This is one of the songs they played, and I think its pretty sweet. Those who know need to know already know. So see you out there tonight!

J Dilla - Pay Jay (Prod. By Kanye West). Here is another Kanye track, this time with him on the production side of things. Jay Dee hooked up with Kanye for his first album on MCA, which is still unreleased! Dilla delivers his usual gritty raps over a crazy thick beat. Shit bumps hard and is sure to fuck up your speakers. Dig it!

Plantlife - Love Toy. The sexy motherfucker that is known as Jack Splash is back. He;s been real busy as of late, producing and writing songs for some of the biggest artists out there right now, including Alicia Keys. Jack produced and co-wrote the song “Teenage Love Affair”. He;’s also currently working on finishing up a whole album with Cee-Lo. DOPE! So you know this dude is quality.

Jamie Lidell - Another Day. This is a good dude right here. I first saw him by accident at some show on the beach, and he was amazing! His beatboxing skills are top notch, but by hearing his music, you probably couldn’t tell. This song is on some real soulful type steez with some nice production. Feel good shit.

Santogold - Starstruck. The ever so classy Santogold released her first album last week. I didn’t post any tracks, but I’ll post a couple today. The album is pretty solid, and you should definitely check it out if you wanna hear some different stuff with a unique style. Startstruck is a lowkey song with deep bass overtones and an eery synth landscape.

Santogold - Shove It. Much like my girl Estelle, Santi seems to love that good ol reggae dub shit. This is one of my favorite tracks on the album, and it features Spank Rock on the final verse. This song has a real smooth beat and Santogold delivers some peculiar vocals over it. Love it.

Mary Jane Girls - Candy Man. This is the throw back jam of the week. Came across this from a friend, and it is killer! Straight up funky beat with some sexy vocals to match. The Mary Jane Girls have plenty of dope jams, including this sexy ass song, but I’m really feeling this one right now. Watch out for it next time you see me DJ!

Music Mondays — Madonna must be like 89 years old!
April 28th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

Another slow week for music has left us here scrambling to find some new shit. Estelle’s new album hits stores tomorrow! Be sure to cop that, it is amazing! Besides that, this new Madonna jam with Timbaland and Timberlake is a banger. The song has that signature Timbaland sound with thick ass drums, and some nice synth work as well. The video is pretty fresh as well.

Madonna - Four Minutes Ft. Justin Timberlake & Timbaland. Not sure how old Madonna is, but she’s been in the game forever. She keeps coming back every few years with a new banger. Good stuff.

Gnarls Barkley - Going On. I’ve posted a couple Gnarls songs before, but I just had to post this one. It has really been killing me lately. Song is too sick! Danger Mouse provides a perfect uptempo, go-go type beat, while Cee-Lo straight kills the melody. This should have been one of the singles.

Glenn Lewis - Don’t You Forget It (Madlib Remix). Before this pat week, I had no idea who this dude was. Turns out, Glenn Lewis is a Canadian born R&B singer who now resides in Philly. Of course… Philly. Seems like all the best neo-soul singers come out of Philly. This song is straight butter with Madlib dropping a smooth ass beat filled with nice bells and thick ass bass.

Busy P - To Protect & Entertain Ft. Murs. This track is stirring up all the blogheads out in the interwebs. Murs is a dope ass dude, and definitely deserves his props. But seems like people were really surprised to hear him working with Busy P. I personally think the joint came out real fresh. The beat is nasty, and Murs does his thing. Can’t hate.

Joyce Sims - All In All. I met a girl this past week at the mall, who told me her favorite music was Freestyle. I kind of chuckled to myself cause nobody has ever said that. So here is a freestyle joint I’ve been really digging lately.

noel - silent morning x-mix remix Here is another classic freestyle joint. Noel hit it huge in the 80s with this shit. However, I put up the house remix cause it feels so much better, and has a much thicker sound to it. I know Armand was influenced by shit like this. Classic.

Billy Joel - My Bmore Life (DJ Soap Remix). I’ve been reminiscing a lot lately with old music, and Billy Joel has been one of my main focal points. He is my dad’s favorite singer, so I know a lot of his music. So while going back, I stumbled upon this brand new Bmore remix by DJ Soap. This is perfect! He chopped up the piano just enough to make it bounce and kept most of the song/vocals the same. I think my dad will approve!

The Bombers - Shake. I’m taking it back to 1979 with this joint. Stumbled upon this on the Hollerboard after someone posted it. SWEET JESUS! This shit is so damn funky. I have been missing this in my life. The synth work on this is crazy, and the congo player is straight bananas! I can’t get enough of this shit. Seriously!

Music Mondays — I love talented women
April 21st, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

lollipop picture

This past weekend we had porn stars running all over Miami Beach. That already happens daily with BangBros running things down here, but this weekend was special. There was the Exxxotica Convention going on which brought out many talented women out in mass. And what a better way to start off the week with the now infamous lollipop song. Enjoy.

Lil Wayne vs DJ Flipsta - Lollipop Remix (no download). Whenever there is a new smash pop hit, there emerges 20,000 remixes to match. Of all the ones I’ve heard so far, the homie DJ Flipsta comes correct again and makes another fresh club house banger. Like always, there’s just enough changeups to keep it moving, sure to kill any dancefloor. Dope.

9th Wonder & Buckshot Ft. Talib Kweli - Hold It Down. Here is some real hip-hop for the heads. 9th Wonder has been quiet for a minute while he works with some of the bigger R&B heavyweights in the game. But now he’s back with some gutter hip-hop to keep shit alive.

David Banner - Seein Thangs. This is one of the realest dudes in the “rap industry”. Always been. If you;ve never seen him speak on real issues, then do it now. On this track, he hooks up with DJ Shadow again, and puts together some deep lyrics over a hard ass beat. No homo.

Dwele - I’m Cheatin. Not sure if I have ever put up a track by the homie Dwele, but this shit right here is killing it. A song about cheating is always some difficult shit to pull off, but who better to do it than the Detroit soul master. One of the dopest singers out right now.

Jackson 5 - Never Can Say Goodbye (Dela Remix). When I came across this song, I wasn’t too sure who Dela was. But of course, anything featuring MJ has got to be heard, so I was all ears. Then I was blown away! This remix is crazy! The drums on this are killer, adding much flavor to the smooth synths in the background. And of course, the young MJ straight kills it on the vocals. Perfect.

Fugees vs Goldrocc - Ready Or Not (BMORE REMIX). This is one of the most classic hip-hop songs of all time, and now its coming back club style for the ‘08. DJ Goldrocc took the infamous horns and added a nicely chopped bmore drum track. There is enough change ups to keep this song banging throughout, and Lauryn’s voice hypes it up. Great remix!

Beyonce - Beautiful Nightmare. This is a newest single from Hov’s girl. Rumors are spreading that this might be her last album. She definitely doesn’t need any more money, and I’m not sure what else she needs to accomplish in the music biz. She has had a brilliant career so far, and this new song is a nice new step. Beat is lovely.

Kraak & Smaak - Bobby & Whitney. I’m telling you now, the cowbell is making a comeback in ‘08. Believe it. This joint can sure any fever, and even has ill lyrics to match. Yeah, they talking about the real Bobby and Whitney. Real shit right here.

DJ Sega - Mad All Over Again. Here is some brand new Bmore shit from one of the best dudes doing it right now, DJ Sega. He flipped a nice reggae joint, and made it an uptempo club banger. Gunshots and all, this track keeps it hype.

Music Mondays — Estelle killing the soulful game right now
April 14th, 2008 // Posted by sweet dick vega

estelle picture

When it comes to R&B, I’m such a sucker for new artists. It gets hard though because there aren’t that many new R&B singers that really got that style and grace to really penetrate the scene. But once every couple years a person like Estelle comes along. She has been around for a minute, but has only just recently been getting a lot of fame and notoriety. This might have been a direct correlation to John Legend signing her to his new label. But the song with Kanye really bumped her up there too.

Her new album due out later this month is fantastic! What’s even more fantastic is that she will be in Ft. Lauderdale on April 22nd to perform! John Legend will also be in the building to host the event. This will surely be a night to remember. So in preparation, here are a couple tracks off her new album, and a bunch of other new tracks.

Estelle - No Substitute Love. There are many great songs on her album, but for some reason this one stands out to me. It’s my favorite so far, but I’m sure I’ll change my mind a few times before I finally settle. This song has a lovely guitar ridden beat with the classic Al Green drum track behind it. It kind of has a soft reggae feel to it, with just enough bounce to keep you guessing.

Estelle - You Are Ft. John Legend. Its been a while since I’ve heard some new John Legend material, so this was a nice surprise. A very nice uptempo beat with lovely vocals dropped by both singers. They compliment each other well throughout the song and even chime in together during the chorus. Sounds like it should have been on John’s last album. So nice.

Gnarls Barkley - No Time Soon. Took me a minute to digest the new Gnarls Barkley album. Been so busy with a bunch of stuff, but I must say that this album is worth everyone’s time. So original, and such a breath of fresh air in today’s current pop music culture. DangerMouse is incredible on the beats, and Cee-Lo continues to deliver amazing vocal tracks. This is one of the tracks that stood out to me. So lovely.

Trina - Hot Commidity Ft. Rick Ross. I was going over Trina’s album the other day, not really expecting much. Skipped a bunch of tracks, but then came to this song at the very end. Sick! Beat is crazy and both Trina and Ross come off real nice. Seems like they put this song at the end cause its not the usual Trina type of shit. So maybe that’s a good thing.

Outkast - Royal Flush Ft. Raekwon. One of hip-hop’s best groups ever is finally returning with more product. They’ve made several appearances lately, including the infamous track with DJ Drama, “Art Of Storytellin 4″. This track features classic Wu member Raekwon, as they rap over a ridiculous beat. The bassline is infectious, and the horns keep it moving as the handclaps top it off nice. Quality shit!

The Game - Big Dreams. Mr. Namedrop finally comes back with some new shit, and its pretty banging. Hard ass beat with some straight rhymes makes it blog worthy. Cool and Dre provided the beat, and The Game drops his usual verse, dropping like 3,000 names through ought the song.

Atmosphere - Guarantees. Slug & Ant were doing it real big for a while, and then they disappeared to nowhere. Looks like they are finally returning with some new product. This is the B-Side off the new single they got out. This one held my interests more because its so fresh and sounds like nothing else. Nice guitar riffs is al Slug needed to paint a picture with his words.

Black Grass - Set It Straight Ft. J-Live. Here is another song with some nice guitar work. I’m on a roll today. I never heard of Black Grass before, but J-Live comes off nice as usual. Smooth beat, smooth rhymes, and just an overall good vibes type of track. Sweet.

2 Pistols Ft. T-Pain - She Got It (Vanguards Uptempo REMIX). Here is some pop cheese for you, but that good kind! I think I posted this song already, but this is the uptempo remix. The original track is so fucking dope to me–T-Pain kills it as usual, dropping a chorus that makes you forget about the rest of the song. The uptempo version is pulled off real nice, and it doesn’t show any noticeable hiccups that uptempo remixes usually show.

Music Mondays — Busta’s new club shit!

I’m back with a bunch of new singles and remixes! Mostly electro shit this time around, but I’ve dropped a classic new single from Busta. Shit hits hard on some old 90s hip-hop type vibe, and I’m sure its gonna take off big real soon. Listen to the songs in the player below or click the link to download from Zshare.

Busta Rhymes - Don’t Touch Me. Brand new single from Busta, like whoa! Shit is crazy! Busta never disappoints with his club shit. Seems like every year, Busta always comes back with a crazy club banger, staying relevant in the music game since the early 90s. This one takes a step back actually, and has a sick drum break reminiscent of some old school Leaders of the New School shit.

Marsha Ambrosius Ft. The Game - Whats Going On. I’m not sure what the deal is with Floetry nowadays, as Marsha has been doing a lot of sidework. Here is a single she has out, possibly for her new album. Not sure. Either way, this song features a verse form The Game, and uses a classic sample that I’m sure you’ll recognize. Not bad.

Johnny Kemp - Just Got Paid (DJ Illo Remix). The Illo man has been putting out some great remixes for a minute. This is another great example. This Johnny Kemp track is a pretty classic New Jack song, but he flipped it on some Bmore type steez. He gave it just enough bounce to hype it up more, but didn’t over do it. Proper club track right here.

Ne-Yo - Closer. This is a nice pop cheese track that I’ve been hearing on the radio a lot while on my way home from work. Ne-Yo is one of the biggest R&B acts right now, and he keeps dropping quality records to keep his status quo up. I think the beat could be a bit harder, especially if they emphasized the bass track a bit more. Regardless, this shit is hot.

LMFAO - Lil Hipster Girl. When I first heard about this group, I wasn’t too sure what to think. I thought it was a joke at first, cause of the first parody song I heard from them, and their myspace profile. However, over time, they’ve been releasing some pretty serious heat. This is a new track, on some heavy electro type steez. Shit bangs!

Wiley - Wearing My Rolex. I met a bunch of dudes from London during WMC a couple weeks ago. They were talking to me about grime and dubstep music, which is real big over there. Dizzie Rascal being one of the main artists. Not sure what category this one falls into, but this song goes hard! Beat is crazy, and the vocals are mad fresh while complementing the rapping.

Shiny Toy Guns - Le Disko. This song has been out for a while already. However, I decided to post it cause I just officially got their single with a bunch of remixes on it. None of the remixes were as dope as the original. So here it is. Indie electro rock, or whatever you want to classify this ass. Crazy beat with dope vocals, I like.

Masta Ace - Jeep Ass (Samir Gutter Remix). Here is another Bmore type song, featuring a classic hip-hop track from one of my favorite rappers, Masta Ace. The original song is a certified hood classic, and this Bmore remix is pretty fresh on its own right. What is interesting about this remix is that it doesn’t use the usual Bmore drum track (Lyn Collins - Think). Instead, it sounds very much like the opening drum track from Company Flow’s “Vital Nerve”. Dope!

Bobby Caldwell - My Flame. I’m taking a trip back down memory lane for this one. This is a classic Bobby Caldwell track which you might recognize from another classic joint, Biggie’s “Sky’s The Limit”. That is probably one of the best hip-hop videos ever. Song is so smooth, much like most of Bobby’s work. So essential.

Music Mondays — Time to chill out.. finally.

Ohhh mannnn.. What a week! I am exhausted. I have not been able to catch any rest since last Tuesday, when the WMC madness began. Every night was jam packed with different events, in all parts of the beach. Too many dope parties to name, but there were a few that definitely stood out. The A-Trak party at the White Room, the RUB party at Purdy Lounge, the disco/boogie party at the Shelbourne hotel with Common & Jazzy Jeff, plus many, many more.

So being that I am so damn tired, this week’s Music Mondays will be a little different. Its time to mellow out. There was too much dance music going on this pat week that I need to go back to my roots. A force that was definitely missing this year was Jay Dee. I heard a few DJs shout him out, but it wasn’t as strong as last year. So this one is for him. I didn’t want to put up all the known classics, so here are some joints that you might have not heard before. Some different shit. Enjoy.

Common, Bilal & Mos Def - Reminisce. I’m gonna start off real strong, with one of my favorite Dilla beats. The drums on this track sound so raw, yet they fit perfectly with the smooth bassline and piano chops. Mos Def drops an incredible verse, and Bilal adds so much more soul to this track. I’ve heard Bilal saying an interview how Dilla pumped out this beat in like 10 minutes, with 3 different samples. Legend.

Pharcyde - She Said (Jay Dee Remix). Here is another remix Dilla cooked up for the Pharcyde. This one is real slow, with just enough bass to make your head bang the fuck out. Everything on this sound so crisp, even the singing in the chorus. Too dope.
