The last joint is from Cipha Sound’s new artist Daytona who re-makes all the classic Tribe joints with help from artists like Kweli, Joel Ortiz, Estelle and CNN. Making the 90s sound fresh again, all new sneaker and swagger rappers take note. Tribe Called Fresssh
Not too long ago there was a special performance that went down at PS14, during the weekly party that is known as MURK’d. The night was held down by Madame TURK and DJ Sharpsound providing the quality tunes for people to jam out to.
It was a pretty good turnout, with a variety of people showing up. The crowd was definitely thick enough when performance time came around, which included Parable and The LeftOuts. Both artists had nice lengthy sets, and the crowd was definitely feeling the vibes, no homo.
Parable came strong and delivered a bunch ofnice tracks with Madame TURK behind the decks. The DJ kept flipping beats on Parable every now and then, but he didn’t seem to skip a beat.
.
Closing off the night, The LeftOuts (Wrekonize + DJ Sharpsound) delivered a strong performance. Sharpsound was keeping the crowd hype by cutting and scratching in between verse. Wrek even got to chime in at one point, and surprised the crowd with his cuts.
Here is a genius moment caught on tape. I’ve been following this dude for a while, even before he blew up with Cassie. Ryan Leslie used to post up videos on youtube of him making beats and the process he took and all that. Shit is so dope. He continues to blow my mind with new videos, and just all the music he puts out.
This past week, he was on DJ Green Latern’s radio show on Sirius, and improvised a beat to Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” song. Needless to say, he fucking killed it!
Here is an older video of him making one of my favorite beats he ever made—Cassie “Sometimes”. This beat is ridiculous! Like seriously! Its cool to see Ryan just wild out in the studio as well, dancing to his beats and layering all the instruments one by one. Genius indeed.
Miami monster DJ Danny Daze just joined forces with another Miami heavyweight, DJ Ash-Rock. Each of them are solid DJs on their own, but also have gained much recognition with their won crews–Danny Daze with DiscoTech, and Ash-Rock with Hydraulix.
But together, they will be known as Miami Subs. A title so fitting, considering each of them straight murder bass sets. Cover your ears!
They have announced this new partnership in the best way possible, through a mixtape. So enough with the small talk, check the noise!
37 tracks long filled with fresh beats and seamless mixing. Bass, electro, house… its all there. Check out the tracklist.
Upon a recent trip to the UK I came up on this fresh compilation of funk groups out of the Sunshine State from the 60s-70s. Out on Now & Again records, Stones Throw’s soulful sister label, it features a stack of un-released 45s, some sampled by a certain Cut Chemist or DJ Shadow, from well knowns including Blowfly & Third Guitar, and plenty of other new ones to discover.
You can check out Jazzman’s site to stream the tracks, or better yet, grab one at your local Amazon outlet instead.Your girls shakin booty will thank you for it!
On the topic, Miami is also home to DJ Le Spam and his dusty podcasts. Dude posts up the tracklistings too to help get your dig on. Get up off that thang!
I just finished putting up this track on Music Mondays, and I foudn teh video for it. Nice!
I think it came out extra dope. A very simple but effective concept. Looks like she is giving props to a lot of notable releases from the past, including an Earth, Wind & Fire’s“Head To The Sky”, Nas’s“Illmatic”, De La Soul’s“3 Feet High and Rising”, Ohio Players’“Honey”, and a bunch more. Is she trying to tell us these are her influences?
Not sure of when and where, but they are coming! According to Billboard.com, the group will be spending a lot of time in the US next summer, with a wide variety of cities all across the country.
It looks like Radiohead will be visiting two cities in Florida, including Tampa and Miami. We’ll just have to wait for the exact date and place.
Until then, here is a dope remix that came out recently. DJ Techincs took their song “Everything Is In Its Right Place” and flipped it into a nice Bmore track.
Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings played for a packed house last night at the Culture Room. They were down here before about 2 years ago, but the crowd was not as thick. However, with the help of Amy Winehouse’s success, and the Dap-Kings musical backing on her platinum album, this modern brand of funk is making its big waves across the states.
Simply put, this is one of the most solid bands out there right now. The homie Wrekonize was at the jam and recorded some videos. I feel hesitant posting them up because you really need to experience this band in person. But nonetheless, this is for the lost souls who missed the show.
Over the Christmas break, world famous DJ Tittsworth decided to release some of his old classics for free. He posted them up for download so people who don’t already have them can snatch them up.
All classic Bmore shit. If he posts up any more, I’ll add them to this post.
Check the latest State of Emergency Radio mix I put together while your wrapping the Xmas presents and getting crunk off that eggnog
Joints from locals Garcia, LMS, Major League and plenty of other hip-hop flavas. Download Here
With help from French superstars Justice, we have some Christmas presents to give out just in time for the holidays. The notorious Lola New York clothing empire has teamed up with Justice to give away a nice limited edition prize pack.
We will be giving out 1 Limited LOLA Cross shirt, 1 † CD by Justice, and 1 Justice tour poster. It will be hand delivered to your doorstep by Santa’s cutest Elves. A nice gift for any human. But who will get it?
The prize package will be sent out to the person who can share what they think is the the best remix done to any Justice song. Hey must also explain why that remix is better than the original. Doesn’t matter what remix, as long as the original was a Justice song. There are probably millions of Justice remixes out there. We’ve even posted some before. So be creative.
Post your selection in the comments, or email us at freshbasilcrew (at) gmail (dot) com. Deadline is next Tuesday, which happens to be Christmas!
The year is coming to a close real soon, and it got me thinking of this year’s strongest tracks. One of the biggest songs this year was “D.A.N.C.E.”, made by French electronic duo, Justice. This song exploded everywhere, and pretty much crossed over into other genres.
Just like any other smash hit, this song got plenty of remixes thrown at it. Some better than others, but most of them were dope. Its pretty hard to mess up such a dope track. Here are a few of my favorites, including the original.
Eli Escobar & Diplo - D.A.N.C.E.. This is my favorite remix. Eli and Diplo add a crazy bassline that just fits perfectly, and change up the order of the vocals. Amazing.
Tittsworth - D.A.N.C.E. (Bmore Remix). Another impressive remix, this time with Tittsworth taking it in the Bmore direction. He chops it up real nice, and doesn’t over-do-it like some Bmore songs tend to do.
MSTRKRFT - D.A.N.C.E. (Remix). This version makes it a little bit more hardcore with deep synths and heavy drums. Very nice effect for a totally different feel.
Wale vs Justice - D.A.N.C.E. Remix. This guy is one of the most exciting rappers out right now, no homo. He out this remix out what seems like ages ago. First “rapper” to be up on this electronic craziness. He killed the flows!
XXXchange Ft. Mos Def & Spank Rock - D.A.N.C.E. Remix. This version came out not too long ago, which is really late in terms of freshness. Wale’s version was already released months before this came out, so you would have figured they would have flipped it differently. But they didn’t Sounds a bit sloppy to me, but maybe other peeps will like it.
A recent movement that has been long in the making, The Red Room encompasses 5 members trying to bring back some good music to the Miami scene. The Red Room team consists of producers, emcees, a poet, and even a graphic design artist. They are a nice mix of individuals who come together and make music that is influenced by jazz, funk, soul, and everything that is good.
The video above is only the first of many more to come. It shows a brief glimpse into their world, and what they will be working on in the months ahead. Their plan is to release a new video once or twice a month, showcasing behind the scenes footage in the studio, interviews, spoken word sessions, concert footage, and guest appearances as well. All music and content in the videos will be their’s solely, including the beat in the video above, produced by Felo.
It will be a fresh and innovative way to keep updated with a local crew that you might not be able to see out in the streets often. The videos will be posted on their MySpace page, as well as on our site periodically. So stay tuned until then, many big things ahead!
One of Florida’s best kept secrets, CYNE, has just released some new music.. for free! Its been a while since CYNE has blessed the people. Their last album “Evolution Flight” came out in 2005. Although it was a great album, people always crave for more!
On the 8 track EP, which you can download on their site, 4 previously unreleased songs are showcased including their respective instrumentals. Much to my surprise, Fresh Basil familia is all over it, including Seven Star, Stress, and Soarse Spoken. My favorite track features all three!
