Our crew reigns supreme in Miami, home skillet. Lean back with the bullshit, and sweat the steez.
A crew of DJs, producers, sneaker heads, scenesters... fresh people, period. We be all over Miami son. Our goal is to spread good music, and put you on to dope events.
The best hip-hop show from last year returns for the 2nd time, this time even bigger. Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Mos Def, Ghostface, Raekwon, plus many more. $55.
Jamie Lidell - Another Day (LIVE). You know how I love live performances. Peeps this recent one on Conan’s show by Jamie Lidell. He’s been changing up his live shows a lot lately. He used to perform solo, straight killing it on the beatbox tip. But now he’s gotten a lot more soulful and performs with a band. Good shit overall, but check his sax player killing 2 horns at the same time around the 3:25 mark. Crazy!
Sharon Jones - Nobody But You. Here is another strong performance on Conan a few weeks ago by Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings. First time I ever heard of Sharon Jones was back in 2005, on Conan’s show. So its nice to see them back on there killing it again. Surely one of hte best bands out there right now.
Cut Copy - Hearts On Fire. This song has been out for mad long already. Some typically “blog house” shit that has been lurking through the interwebs endlessly. Still a fresh song though. THe video came out pretty dope too.
Censor Bar Art. I have no idea who sings this song, but I do recognize Dizzee Rascal in towards the middle. Not sure why they got him to rap on this track, but overall the songs is fresh. But the video is fucking crazy! Really original. They never show any private parts, but it still might not be safe for work. Enjoy!
Major League Ft. Streets Buchanon - Fly With The Time. The homies Major League from Ft. Laudy put together a nice video for their new song, featuring Streets Buchanon. It was directed by Miami video director vet, Haviken Hayes. Song is dope, and the video came out fresh. It was shot at Hi-Top Studio, which happens to be Lex One’s store. Killa!
.
Nas - Be A Nigger Too. The long awaited controversial album will finally be coming out real soon! This is the first video for the risky single he put out, with is filled with a enough N-words to make Papa Bear get all frizzled up. The video was shot well, and has a bunch of extra footage. The intro at the beginning is supposedly the intro for the album, and it has an extra song in the end. Powerful stuff.
Gnarls Barkley - Going On (Live). Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman to perform my favorite song off their album! Not as dramatic as some of their other performances, but still dope. Looks like they still having fun with the costumes and shit. Best dudes out right now.
Rza - You Can’t Stop Me Now. Wu-Tang released a couple videos for their last album. But of course, you know Rza always stay working hard, and he already got some new shit cooking. This video is fresh. Nothing too spectacular, but it has a real eery feeling to it thats matches the song so well.
Jamie Lidell - Another Day. This dude is THAT dude right now. One of the coolest guys out, and his live shows are amazing! This is a fun video for the single off his last album. Lots of cool effects, and just nice cinematography. Keep doing it kid!
Muscles - Sweaty (Shazam Remix). You’ve probably already seen this video, as it was featured on YouTube. If not, pay attention! I’m not sure if its an official video, but thats the name of the artist/song playing in the background. The visuals are amazing! Like Chapelle once demonstrated, everything in slow motion just looks better… well, most things.
Sam Sparro - Black and Gold. I think this song is fucking killer! I believe I posted it up way back for Music Mondays, but I never knew it had a video. Its pretty fresh, with some very nice cinematography, and nice colors. Well done Sam.
Wale - W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E. The big homie Wale finally put together a video for his smash remix from last summer. The Justice dudes liked it so much they named it the official remix. And it looks like Wale tried to remix Justice’s video as well. Uses a lot of similar techniques and concepts, but with graphics that aren’t as good. He prob didn’t have a big budget though, so i still think its cool!
Kanye West - Flashing Lights (Alternate Version). Here is another version to Kanye’s last video. For those that really liked the first, I’m sorry to tell you that Rita G is does not make an appearance in this one. And much like the first, Kanye rarely makes an appearance either. But I think its pretty sweet. Nice stop-action video with sweet shots.
The Dysfunct - Throw It All Away. Miami favorite and friend of the crew, Garcia, has teamed up with his cousin from Cali, Adrianne. Together, they formed a new group that will blend hip-hop, pop, and rock sounds. This is the first track, and I think it is lovely. Produced by another hometown here, Plex Luther of MAYDAY fame.
Young MC - Know How (Aaron LaCrate & Debonair Samir REMIX). If you into Bmore, then you already know who these guys are. No need to explain. Some of the best dudes in the game doing that Bmore shit. This is a track off a project that is coming out soon featuring a bunch of other heavy hitters remixing old school hip-hop tracks. This one is sick, with a dope video to match.
Coldplay - Violet Hill. The ever so elegant Chris Martin returns with some new Coldplay heat. I really like this song, and the video is pretty sweet too.
The infamous Danny Daze and Joe Maz, aka DiscoTech, released a brand new remix featuring the one and only Bill O’Reilly. It kind of makes you think that these guys don’t sleep cause the video they remixed just came out last week. With help from Gigamesh, who is now the third member of DiscoTech, they even put a video together to go along with the song.
As usual, nothing but a killer dance tune from the remix champs. Papa bear should be so proud right now.
An artist by the name of BLU recently put together this nice still-shot animation of his work in Buenos Aires. I can’t even imagine how long this could have taken him, but it is ridiculous!
Here we have three strong new videos, including one from hometown hero DJ Manuvers.
Mustafa Yoda - El NiƱo. Here is some fresh hip-hop from Argentina. Why post this you ask? The one and only DJ Manuvers produced this song for the Argentinian superstar. They have have been workign together on a lot of music, and this is the first video they have made. Manuvers does not make an appearance, but it is pretty sick. Nice cinematography, and an overall great concept. Killing it kid!
Gnarls Barkley - Going On. As always, Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse put together an interesting music video that is unique among all the other videos out there. They don’t make an appearance in this one, but the visuals are pretty sweet, and the dancing sequences are clever. The story gets a little weird towards the breakdown at the end, leaving you with the two main characters jumping into another world. Seems like they might continue this in another video? We’ll see.
G-Unit - I Like The Way She Do It. The big boys over at G-Unit will be putting out a new album this summer. Here is the first single. Sounds like the usual stuff they put out, so I’m not sure how well this will crossover in the clubs. I think its still pretty cool though, beat is nice.
Here is another week of brand new videos. Starting off strong with a song that the homie Jack Splash produced and co-wrote for Alicia Keys.
Alicia Keys - Teenage Love Affair. Alicia puts together a nice story type of video, building a bunch of characters that correlate to the song. I think it came out real nice.
Chromeo - Fancy Footwork. I thought this was going to be the first video they released, but its now pretty much the last one. This is the best song off their album, and the video is killer! Dope concept.
Busta Rhymes - Don’t Touch Me. The king of the hip-hop videos brings back his old style for this new shit. Crazy! Song is hype as fuck, and the video is straight up Busta clowning like always.
Here is a genius moment caught on tape. I’ve been following this dude for a while, even before he blew up with Cassie. Ryan Leslie used to post up videos on youtube of him making beats and the process he took and all that. Shit is so dope. He continues to blow my mind with new videos, and just all the music he puts out.
This past week, he was on DJ Green Latern’s radio show on Sirius, and improvised a beat to Lil Wayne’s “Lollipop” song. Needless to say, he fucking killed it!
Here is an older video of him making one of my favorite beats he ever made—Cassie “Sometimes”. This beat is ridiculous! Like seriously! Its cool to see Ryan just wild out in the studio as well, dancing to his beats and layering all the instruments one by one. Genius indeed.
It has been a while since I have posted ny late night performances, but this week has been so crazy. Check out these that happened this week.
The Roots Ft. Wale & Chrisette Michele - Rising Up(on Letterman). That motherfucking dude Wale got his first major TV appearance with The Roots last night on Letterman. The performance came off real fresh, and it seemed like mad shit was going on, but it flowed well. Letterman seemed to enjoy it cause he is hardly ever that enthusiastic.
Santogold - L.E.S. Artistes(on Conan). The ever so classy Santogold had a pretty decent performance. I’m not sure if most people will get her, but this probably helped her grow her fanbase somewhat. The homie Pase Rock was cold chillin’ in the background as well.
Feist - I Feel It All(on Colbert Report). Stephen rarely has on music guests, but when he does, its always special. Feist delivered a lovely performance, just her and her guitar. But you’ll have to catch the interview to see what the blue dress was all about. Classic!
Playaz Circle - Paper Chaser Ft. Phonte. This group slipped my radar at first, and I never would have guessed they would have known who Phonte was. I posted this song on Music Mondays way back, and they finally made a video for it. Classic shit. Lots of slow motion shots, and plenty of cuties throughout the video. And Phonte finally getting his major shine on. Play on playa!
Kraak & Smaak - Squeeze me. This is a fresh ass video that I just had to share. These dudes are legendary diggers, and they put out some nice funk and breakbeat type music. This is a good example. Great song, and a really clever video to match. I used to want to get one of those flippies for myself, but I guess I really have to now!
Wu-Tang Clan - The Heart Gently Weeps. This is arguably the best song off of Wu-Tang’s last album. RZA sampled a classic Beatles joint and just “Wu-Tang’ed” it all out. The video is pretty fresh, with cameo’s from RZA & GZA. However, no Ghostface, Raekwon, or Method Man though. I wonder what happened. The crew has bene having problems lately, but they should haev come together for this video.
Lupe Fiasco - Paris, Tokyo. This is probably my favorite track off of Lupe’s new album. Smooth ass beat, and lovely rhymes. The video takes Lupe to many countries, and shows him trying to show off some stylish clothes. Not bad.
The Roots - Birthday Girl Ft. Patrick Stump. This is a real interesting track from The Roots, which will not appear on their upcoming album. In an interview Quest was talking about how this song doesn’t really fit well with all the other songs on the album. But they decided to put it out anyways cause it was some interesting shit.
Peter Rosenberg - Duke Fan Stan. This guy has been clowning on the internet for a while now. But don’t let that fool you. He got the illest radio show in New York right now, bringing back that good ol’ hip-hop and giving independent artists a chance. Check him out.
Kanye finally put together a video for one of my favorite tracks on the album, “Homecoming”. The beat is ridiculous on this, and Chris Martin adds some nice flavor to the chorus. The video came out pretty cool, showing off some nice parts of Chicago.
Atmosphere - Shoulda Known. Not sure how I feel about this track. Atmosphere has kind of fallen off over the years. But the video is pretty fresh.
And here is a nice video with Rhymefest, where he talks about his upcoming album. He traveled to China to promote the new album, and as always, keeps it mad entertaining.
